Note

Sisters:

[not sure why I didn't run this before 2014]
2014: 2:31:30
2015: 2:32:01
2016: Run for fun (conflicted with Billygoat also, 2016 Boston hangover)
2017: 2:27:40 (Sistersgoat Leg 1)
2018: 2:26:45
2019: 2:23:46

Now I have to keep the trend going!

Weather looks nice and cool, so unless it's raining I should be in good shape. Also, Alex, we need to discuss ice cream options.

Run 22:44 [1] 2.51 mi (9:03 / mi) +36m 8:40 / mi
ahr:130 max:164

Run, covid test, run to O.

I swallowed a bug biking home from the office and coughed for like 30 minutes and was convinced I had covid. Once I had the test, I didn't cough since. So, problem solved. (Also figure with racing and travel and carpooling I should get myself cleared. Elena came back from NOLA today with a cough, tested negative but put in a PCR, too. Hopefully she feels better and comes back negative so I can use her for her location near my carpool pickup.)

Orienteering 25:35 [3] 2.43 mi (10:32 / mi) +82m 9:32 / mi
ahr:142 max:154

After the race I asked Keegan what he was running for a mile these days so I can feel better about myself. 4:30. Well, okay then.

Franklin Park actually feels like orienteering! There's features, there are contours to follow, there's greenbriar, all of the things. Ran a pretty clean race for really the first orienteering since last fall, made a couple of mistakes (took a long route to 4, for instance). I like how AP automatically links in splits, not sure if I've seen that feature before. The navigation felt a bit better by the second half, it does not mean that I am ready for Sunday but at least I might have a clue.

Note

Wow, April was my lowest training month since April 2016. Nothing happened that month! Just a taper and then recovery. I'll probably be most of the way to 16h by the end of the weekend with Sistersgoat. Then nothing on the calendar so … some fun? Rollerskiing?

Stadiums 44:00 [1] 1.42 mi (30:59 / mi) +709m 12:09 / mi
ahr:182 max:198

Almost #justsleptin but then decided to go off to NP. Since it was May the Fourth, we ran four sections at every section with a 4 (which was less bad than, say, 4 sections at every section which was a multiple of 4). This was 49 sections (vs 64) so of course I had to do an extra section (and steps) for 50 even. In 44 minutes.

Felt decent, going down little steps because Sisters, then lousy after. Better now.

Run 29:57 [1] 3.86 mi (7:46 / mi) +10m 7:42 / mi

Jogaroo … this felt like 8:10s and I had my watch still on trail run mode which doesn't give me mile splits for whatever reason (I should look into this) so I wasn't getting mile splits but wound up being 7:40s.

Trail Run 1:10:00 [1] 2.98 mi (23:29 / mi) +724m 13:23 / mi

Up to Tux! Going up behind Jess, Lincoln and Lincoln's dad, passing a bunch of folks. Made it to HoJo's without much need for microspikes, put them on afterwards. Lovely day.

Ski (AT) 1:06:00 [1] 1.35 mi (48:53 / mi) +398m 25:31 / mi

Three runs of Tux.

First run, not seeing the LJ crew, I went up Right Gully to the transition rock where we'd skied last year the Inferno. It seemed steep (it is steep!) so I then took a path across the bowl towards the run out from left, before making some turns. needed to get my confidence up, and make my first turn where if I fell I wouldn't hit rocks.

Then found them and they suggested Left, so I went up Left for a ways until a good transition, and came down. Felt much more confident, so got to the bottom, went up a good deal further to where it was steeper (some 45˚ angles going on there on the bootpack) and came down and it felt great.

I wasn't about to go up the Headwall but a lot of other people did and around 2:30 a bunch of them started crashing (we saw some impressive ice wall hucks, too, which were landed). Most people were fine, but several others were not. Could I have taken another run of Left? Probably! Was I happy with these. Yup. And walking out.
3 PM

Trail Run 38:39 [1] 2.93 mi (13:12 / mi)

The injured were:

* Woman with a busted knee in a litter.
* Guy with a compound arm walking out (!) being told "no, not tomorrow you need to go to Memorial now, get some antibiotics, and tell them not to admit you there because you live in Boston and they will transport you to Maine Med."
* Friend of a friend with a bad-but-walkable knee.

Jess was waiting to see if the friend-of-a-friend needed help, or the litter carry. Eventually she decided to come down with me (she needed a ride) and we set off down the trail only to hit the traffic jam behind the litter carry. It took most of an hour to get to HoJos, then we waited to confirm plans with the snow ranger and the friend-of-friend party, and then went down.

The top of the Sherbie was lovely, I then changed to microspikes and ran down the Tux trail wicked fast.

Took Jess to 2G8 to fetch a vehicle (long story) and then had a lovely drive down 93.

Jogaroo around the pond, then up the hill and down. First mile felt slower, then felt better. Not a bad day!
