"McComb Hill". Div 4: 3.4km, 13c. 12th/32 (16:29 behind John Bulman). 18°C. TE 3.4.
Similar course to last year in a very small area but better (drier) weather this time. Started about 50' before the main group. Not really happy with my concentration from #4-6.
#1-3 - OK. #4 - Followed cliff line to the right area but didn't go low enough (lost 4'). #5 - Stopped too soon on track (-2:15). #6 - Ran too far on track (-1:45). #7-10 - OK. #11 - Navigated tracks to 12 then contoured to 11. #12 - Contoured back. #13 - OK. Total est time lost: 8:00.
Best legs: #7, 12 (1st/32). Best pos: 12th/32 (#11-F)

NSW Novice XC Championship, Scarborough Park, Ramsgate. 11.30am-4pm. 18°C.
Events today: 2km, 3km, 5km, 2 x 10km, 4x1km relay. Filled in as referee as Dave was on holidays in Tasmania. Hoping to have a quiet day. Most interesting incident was a girl in the 2km fun run claiming she had been pushed. Turned out she bumped shoulders with another runner who had possibly cut in too close. She didn't actually fall over. Deemed to be a racing incident. Also had to warn a (gravel) bike rider not to look as if he was pacing runners. The new relay format was interesting. Teams were handicapped at the start based on their nominated total running time. First team to cross the finish line would be the winner as long as they were no more than 15" faster than their predicted time. The first three teams were too fast. After 4km the last runners of the two fastest 'legal' teams hit the finish line almost in a dead heat.

Rain.
Bike ready late this afternoon so I will pick it up tomorrow on my way to Ramsgate. Bike shop has replaced the front middle cog which they say was causing my chain to slip. $25 for the part, $0 labour, because it should have been picked up in the service two weeks ago.

Parramatta-Fairfield crossing loop (ACW). Reattached my preferred pedals. R pedal fixed with spare parts at Kuringai Cycles, Hornsby ($30). Both now repaired within 18 months (6 years old). New gears still slipping near the larger cogs and crunching a bit. Jockey wheel bracket broke near the end of my ride when the chain slipped off about 1km from the end. Have to go back to Blackman's this arvo. Headwind out; tailwind back. Had to call security at 4PSQ to open my day locker because the code wouldn't work. 21°C. TE 2.7.

Parramatta<>North Parramatta. Back to Blackman Bicycles for repairs. Disappointed that the new cassette was never slipping into gears properly over the two rides after I collected the bike. Mechanic said sometimes the cables stretch and that the derailleur was bent. I said it was either returned to me that way or it happened when the chain came off this afternoon. Also annoyed that they want me to make a special trip to pick the bike up tomorrow rather than storing the bike until next Thursday. 17°C.

Foxglove Oval, Mt Colah. First run here since last July. 5 laps of the NDLAC 1km cross country course (5:29, 5:18, 5:23, 5:25, 5:10). As the laps were actually about 30m 'short' by GPS I finished with the flat 500m loop (2:31) to push me over 5km. Longest non-stop run in quite a while. New season best for 5km 27:22. 20°C. TE 3.2.

Warmer outside the house than inside today. At 5.7km encountered a couple of heavy vehicles widening the trail by removing some foliage on the edges. Important trees had been tagged with pink tape to keep. There were warning signs at the Ti-Tree end but not where I started at Joalah. 16°C. TE 2.5.

Berowra<>Oxley Drive, Mt Colah. Avoided the steep climb up from Foxglove by continuing down the Pacific Highway another 800m because I can't turn right at Beryl. Gradually getting used to how my new road bike handles. 17°C. TE 2.6.
