orienteering race 2:07:00 [4] 7.8 km (16:17 / km)

NGOC at Blakney Hill -dead last on te Brown. A bit of a troubled trip and not concentrating at the start - lost 10 mins on no 1 - found it very difficult to read the contour detail (a bit soft print?) in the dappled light, not careful enoughh with the AP. went staright to a strong feature wich I was convinced was the control. No real relocation strategy. Eventually abandonded but going to 2 all becanme clear. Actually ran ok if slow to 19 were history repeated and could not relocate so lost loads more time ......then in a grump went in the wrong direction to the non-technical last control -lost nearly 20 mins over the last couple and frankly any enthusiasm for orienteering had everaporated

off road 3:00:00 [3] 13.2 mi (13:38 / mi)

Ran with Mark and Alice from Chepstow Leisure centre up west side of the Wye to Tintern and back down East. Very nice route with no shortage of hills and a fun 1km old railway tunnel with subduded lighting so we did not disturb the bats. Quite a warm and very humid day, so the coolness of the tunnel was a welcome relief. We were all (well perhaps other than Alice?) a bit depleted/ dehydrated at the end so walking on the last hill seemed like a good plan.
A "top" outing with great company

Some warming up before Day 2 of Cadihoe (not Chase)

orienteering race 49:52 [5] 5.8 km (8:36 / km)

WIm Cadihoe Day 2 Ashley Walk. (Probably went to wrong day) In the New Forest from the Cricket Pitch near Godshill. Lovely day, beautiful scenery but probably not the most technical part of the forest as mostly open. Ran M65 which mapped to Short Blue, so length not too bad. Although young in the class speed quite a bit slower than leaders, but as I avoided a major mistake (and found) the pesky trree so overall result not too bad = quite pleasing. So 2 -3 went up to the path and went round RHS of gorse, which did not actually have an edge and extended further, so had to bash down into the re-entrant but then good lead in feature. So I ran straight to correct tree and there was the control sneakly hiding around the back. I suspect I lost time on those who went round LHS of gorse but gained on those who took the very viable round the path route but then faced the dilema as to whether the pesky tree was in the open or wood, this included Colin Dickson who lost buckets of time and so suprisingly did not catch me up nor win. Really just the vagoury of orienteering with summer vegetation, so a bit of luck that was missing last week.
