orienteering race 49:52 [5] 5.8 km (8:36 / km)
WIm Cadihoe Day 2 Ashley Walk. (Probably went to wrong day) In the New Forest from the Cricket Pitch near Godshill. Lovely day, beautiful scenery but probably not the most technical part of the forest as mostly open. Ran M65 which mapped to Short Blue, so length not too bad. Although young in the class speed quite a bit slower than leaders, but as I avoided a major mistake (and found) the pesky trree so overall result not too bad = quite pleasing. So 2 -3 went up to the path and went round RHS of gorse, which did not actually have an edge and extended further, so had to bash down into the re-entrant but then good lead in feature. So I ran straight to correct tree and there was the control sneakly hiding around the back. I suspect I lost time on those who went round LHS of gorse but gained on those who took the very viable round the path route but then faced the dilema as to whether the pesky tree was in the open or wood, this included Colin Dickson who lost buckets of time and so suprisingly did not catch me up nor win. Really just the vagoury of orienteering with summer vegetation, so a bit of luck that was missing last week.
