Middle Race at Dale Park 22/68. Step, rocky mostly deciduous. Detailed 1;7500 map. Heavy rain, grey day

Other than control 3, I was not too bad, yes I lost some time in the circle e.g. at 4 but really not to bad it a challenging area. Winsplits mistakes out quite good and actually had one fastest split

This was really about control 3 where I took 15.34 for a leg that should have taken 3 mins. Though I had an ap but did not, got far to far NW though I was in white but actually green, lots of knolls could not make sense of map, made open fit ….it did not....much, much too late bailed out and went to wall......hey presto easy. Perhaps not a great of map but need to think more

A really enjoyable week

off road 15:00 [2] 0.8 km (18:45 / km)

Warm up
2 AM

orienteering race 1:05:00 [5] 8.0 km (8:08 / km)

Askham Fell 23/66. Another hot sunny day -a very featureless, bland moor which had its challenges. After trivial 1, going to 2 I had expected 2 low hills, actually pretty flat and with bracken not mapped on this version accurate compass was to be essentially and mine was going to be not quite good enough, I lost a little bit of time here on accuracy and similarly at 13 although winsplits says only error was 14 where I had to search for ditch in heather....someone punching would have been handy.

So had done pretty well till cluster of controls in gorse bushes in last 150 metres,,,,,, I knew to be careful but still went into headless chicken mode losing 3+ mins in to total …..how stupid was that.

Again a bit surprised how much I was behind overall

Warm up

orienteering race 1:07:48 [5] 5.7 km (11:54 / km) +240m 9:50 / km

Whinlatter Forest (17/62) planning made most of what had been reserve forest, nice sunny day. A good run, lost a bit of time fussing in heather but everyone did, and slow on the steep downs. Particularly pleased in that I spotted the round route on the penultimate control - I was 4th on this leg and it enabled that rare thing to sneak in front of Chris

My knee was sore again afterwards -it was a tough day

Warm up

orienteering race 1:00:57 [5] 6.0 km (10:10 / km) +300m 8:08 / km

Angle Tarn Pike, (20/66) lovely sunny day, started well, its easy to navigate when you can see where you are going. Chose a good route on the long leg to 6, but then navigational mistake into the control, needed to go NE up the hill from crags but contoured, with others, to wrong control and unable to relocated quickly lost 3 / 4 mins so overall result ok but could have been good

1 AM

off road 25:00 [3] 2.0 km (12:30 / km)

Run to and from start
2 AM

orienteering race 1:29:32 [5] 5.9 km (15:11 / km) +290m 12:11 / km

Silver How. (39/71) Really hosing it down with rain and windy but not cold, ran early clag was down and could not see more than 50m.
Not sure as to wear a cagole and started without. Not ready for change of scale to 1:!0,000 and 5m, missed easy no 1 and did not consider path route to 2. Recovered from 180 wrong but wasted time in circle at 4. Getting very cold so stopped and put on cagole, Despite my adventures was 19th at 8. Did not take path route to 9 -could not make sense of low hills, disorientated and very difficult to relocate eventually found tarn but which one -leg took 16 mins, 8 mins would have been ok.
A beastly day but really enjoyed the challenge ….particularly in retrospect
