Controlling 2:30:00 [2] 12.0 km (12:30 / km)

Was surprisingly tired by end, I don't think I have got rid of the bug yet.

Memorable view from the plateau of the headlights below, underneath an exceptionally bright moon and stars. There may be some photos. Very, very grateful to Mark for taking on the Pembrey controlling. It was not a black and white decision to switch the Pembrey race to the day and move the nights to Merthyr Mawr. It certainly put much added strain on the already busy Welsh volunteers. Steve and Mark seem to have made really good use of the variety of the area with more use of the country park and open dunes than originally envisaged. I don't think the old favourite disappointed, and was pleased how it went. However its the competitors perspective that is important

Some may think Roger's courses a bit too easy, (although might have been a bit different with a Yoxterish mist.) I think of orienteering as a running sport choosing and executing routes not just finding controls.

Short Purdown run but with 3 hills. Just pottering along in the sunshine -nice but tired today

Controlling 2:00:00 [2] 10.0 km (12:00 / km)

Completely knackered, don't think I have recovered fully yet and long driving did not help. Still had to be done. Representative time and distance on feet for 6+ hrs

orienteering race 1:16:23 [5] 8.5 km (8:59 / km)

BAOC Event at Purham Down, on a cold, dry winters day. The race was trickier than I expected. Early in the race poor, confused and struggling to understand map, tracks badly cut up and added to by heavy vehicles, vegetation a bit dated and new fencing work in progress. Going to 1, veg a bit odd, confused. Could not find 2 -a hugemongust depression in brambles did find a tower which I could not see on map very confused. A 9 min leg, Left control 2 but not in chosen northerly direction, eventually sorted in out in a confused sort of way but another near 9 min leg, did not see simple path route to 4 contoured through open which was too thick woodland to get through.....quite confusing. Re -grouped, stopped fretting about whether I was ok to run etc. and concentrated and rest of course ok. Enjoyed the variety of legs and terrain, definitely come back here and give it another go, can do better.

off road 55:00 [3] 5.0 mi (11:00 / mi)

Purdown short version but with three hills, sunny bright, mild day, ran in shorts and T shirt. Hardly been out of the house recently so when I started felt like I had never run before but got better after a while.
Really happy to be out running again.
