orienteering race 1:00:43 [5] 5.3 km (11:27 / km)

Middle distance -Memoria (39)
Lovely sunny day - much easier and faster terrain that training. A bit rusty and confidence fragile. Ran quite well at start but could feel hamstring by end.
Small but quite costly misses on 2&3 not reading detail. Control 6 difficult to hold compass line and then even more difficult to relocate in low visibility. Huge mistake on 14 (easiest leg on course) got on wrong set of fences and then as it all looks the same could nor relocate - nobody else will have done this. I think tiring and poor concentration. Got in wrong re-entrant on short leg (part) following any took time to relocate.
Splendid well planned race

orienteering race (Urban ) 32:17 [5] 3.3 km (9:47 / km)

Night Race Penamacor (25)
Pouring with rain, very dark, difficult to read map with bright glare of headlight on the plastic bag. The slope and steep cobbled streets gave route choice options from the start. Trying to plan ahead and know where I am was as ever for me a disaster - when will I learn? Basically ok if hesitant to 8. Here I was basically confused expecting a canopy (I discovered after the run that this was also bare rock). Navigated to control very reluctant to punch even after checking code. Disturbed as I left and in the wrong alley for 9 suddenly completely lost, eventually followed Mark who took me to 10. I could now retrace steps and re-join race.
Really enjoyed this event. None of the UK Urban planners tricks -wrong side of wall

Laura said Portugal just made for orienteering

Model Event Ramalhao
Small, hilly, rocky, 'variable' runnability. Great map fiendishly complicated.
Really enjoyable in the bright sunshine
