orienteering race 55:36 [3] 6.2 km (8:58 / km)

Ngoc local event at Danby Lodge. Not really any mistakes other than stopping short at no.14. A fair amount of track running but also climb.
Shortish warm up - not feeling too uncomfortable only really ribs -probably not surprising as still have a number of enormous bruises. Better at finish than start.

Note

I have bruised ribs, grazed arm and shoulder, black eye and cut where I banged my head on a stone. Not slept for a couple of days and bizarrely tweaked my buttock. (I must have twisted trying to avoid hitting my face.) Its a real and proverbial pain in the bum.

orienteering race 36:01 [5] 3.8 km (9:29 / km)

JK Relay Leg 3 Graythwaite East 16/38
Really gorgeous bit of 100% runnable deciduous woodland. Struggling with ribs after fall and could not get up any speed. Only made one error coming to spectator control.
Good place for a Relay. Both Chris and Pete my team mates ran well. Alas I was not really able to capitalise.
Another nice spring day.

Note

A bit of a disappointing JK - I don't really know why -the races gave a real challenge and I had prepared pretty well but all four days were really a bit less than I could have hoped. An opportunity missed - still very enjoyable in great surroundings and lots more races this year.
Perhaps need to have practiced in some similar stuff

JK Day 3 Warm up

orienteering race 1:28:23 [5] 6.8 km (13:00 / km)

JK Day 3 Bigland 40/107
Took a big fall at end did not affect time
First part of the course 1-11 was really very enjoyable but standard Lake District fare and few will have made errors. Unfortunately I missed 3 (probably not by much) but lost 4.5 mins, (slipped from 26 to 69) Took wrong route to 12 and lost a min or so. Winsplits tells me that I lost time 4 out of the controls on the steep slope (12 mins total) surprisingly only slipped from 44 to 46 -but damage done and little could be recovered over the last few.
A cracking good, challenging and enjoyable race.
