walking 2:10:00 [1] 5.0 mi (26:00 / mi)

My foot seems to have done something at AC. Probably a new opportunity to be a hypochondriac.
Walked with Charlie & Huw up Sugar Lump. Glorious day, much enjoyed and probably not bad training

flat efforts (grass) 50:00 [5] 4.0 mi (12:30 / mi)

BAWA Pyramid 30 secs to 3 mins with max 2 min gap.
A poor performance - just difficult mostly breathing. No good reason a bit tdisapointing - still perhaps its keeping going in these type of sessions that helps in a race environment

Note
(rest day)

In Derby again and after a total of 6 hrs in the car on a hot day - I wimped out of even a short walk

1 AM

road run 22:00 [3] 1.8 mi (12:13 / mi)

Leigh woods path warm up and 6 x 1min and ran back
2 AM

orienteering race 45:58 [5] 5.4 km (8:31 / km)

Ashton Court - I was surprised to find that Jim Hargreaves had made a new map. Loved the detail and it felt right (which is odd for AC) I think I probably prefer 1:10,000 & 5 metre contours here - good pub type of conversation. Frankly the event would have been more fun a month ago pre nettles et al. Park races in summer in Bristol are just difficult. Elite orienteers certainly know how to plan and course was good - lost time at 8 (interpreted the map incorrectly) and 16 (left 15 in wrong direction so had to approach up the hill -had intended easy attack from top and so got confused) probably each was getting on for 2mins.
Pleased I fought the traffic to get there. Hats off to James Hargreaves!

off road 53:34 [4] 5.5 mi (9:44 / mi)

A bit mixed up - home at 3.30 am - college work day so did Purdown run - very dry -warm but not too hot. Went out for gentle potter but ran hard. Yes clock says 53 not 55? Perhaps the shock of not being in a bog or falling over a rock or crawling under conifers caused a reaction

orienteering race 1:37:28 [5] 5.8 km (16:48 / km)

Crohane Lake: I was just about last to start. Threw 2-2.5 mins away at control 1. (Don't really know why did - not read the map) and left control 6 in wrong direction (had to return -1 min). But still orienteering quite well and the terrain seemed a little easier than yesterday. Half way round in not much over 30 mins
Then we came to the forest - some might say challenging, others fierce. I did not orienteer horribly yet 20 min/ km seems a lofty ambition.
(Not helped today by the sole coming off my shoe)
Really good weekend - an Irish weekend. The Irish orienteers are great. Would like to come back if opportunity arises both to orienteer or walk the hills. Lucky with weather.

Things to consider -lack of speed, strength and agility in the terrain.
Keep confident in navigation

orienteering race 1:38:19 [5] 6.8 km (14:27 / km)

Crohane Mountain: This really was Pete fosters day -he produced a great result but not Marks he has had to drop out with an injured ankle.
Classic Race in full on rough pathless Irish mountain surrounded by other great Irish hills. Great fully detailed map. Some Horlicks - firstly a bit like yesterday went to the wrong block of hills at no2 - just lost confidence when I was actually right and then (stupidly) lost track doing the long leg to no 5. Rest was half reasonable with the exception of the dreaded no 9 which took 22mins. I know what I did now but not then. Actually navigated and went straight to no 12 - wrong code. Tried to relocated by looking at map around 9. Eventually bumbled N and did relocate.
Almost completely dead last but drinking a Murphy's full of barbeque overlooking the race and golf course and then onto Purple Mountain with a good Irish band in the background its fairly easy to believe that its the taking part that matters.
