Monday Aug 31, 2020 #

off road 1:02:03 [3] 5.5 mi (11:17 / mi)

A loop of Ashton Court after re-planning Orange and Yellow. The council have mowed, obscuring the previously clear paths with hay. Landowners always seem to find a way of introducing late change.
Slow again, not much zip but nice morning
Lots of volume and enjoyable runs in August but perhaps lacking a bit in quality.

Sunday Aug 30, 2020 #

off road 2:40:00 [3] 13.3 mi (12:02 / mi)

Run with Dave and Celia from Bishops Canning. Route included the Wansdyke and back along the canal. With many view stops on a very pleasant morning. It seems like we have discovered a new hobby of countryside exploration which I rather like.

Saturday Aug 29, 2020 #

orienteering (Urban) 1:08:20 [3] 7.0 km (9:46 / km)

From Pomfrey south to the forest park. taking different routes. Again slow compounded by seeming to have forgotten how to run and read the map at the same time. It was a sunny day and at least I enjoyed it.

Friday Aug 28, 2020 #

off road 1:00:38 [3] 5.0 mi (12:08 / mi)

Standard run from Swineford. I seemed to have nothing in the legs and was slow up the hill. The downs were also slow in part because storms had made then slippery. I was actually 6 mins slower for five miles which is quite remarkable. It just seemed like hard work, my head was not into it and for the first time in some while did not enjoy it.

Thursday Aug 27, 2020 #

off road 1:22:40 [3] 7.0 mi (11:49 / mi)

Started in light rain finished in heavy. Ran Purdown, Forme Valley and just into Oldbury Court. Had gone out with the intent of doing more but quite slow today and probably really just pottering along in the rain so cut short to get home and get into the shower. Isn't that odd. Still no shortage of hills so good training

Wednesday Aug 26, 2020 #

off road 1:01:44 [3] 6.0 mi (10:17 / mi)

Purdown, run seemed like hard work today. The wind has eased but it still seemed to be in my face in a multitude of directions. (The Downs was always like this, so perhaps with climate change this peculiar vortex like effect is spreading). Tried to struggle on and quite a good last section, so should take a positive and encouragement from the time.

Tuesday Aug 25, 2020 #

off road 1:09:24 [3] 6.5 mi (10:41 / mi)

Very windy day so another non standard route. Lots of loops in the local wood followed by a circuit of Oldbury Court. The former quite slow the later a bit quicker

Monday Aug 24, 2020 #

off road 1:10:04 [3] 7.0 mi (10:01 / mi)

Old standard route at Blaise from Combe Dingle. I have been avoiding Blaise as full of people, which in fact was justified. (A mostly sunny day in depth of school hols main and most of overflow car park full.) Whilst most of the run was ok just a few pinch points were too busy. Run did not start well, lots of people but also shoe issue. Stopped and re-laced shoes at the Castle (using extra hole which I had avoided due to rubbing/ *too tight lacing issue on Saturday). After this all was well, with more push from feet and actually ran really well for rest of the route.

Sunday Aug 23, 2020 #

off road 1:19:00 [3] 7.5 mi (10:32 / mi)

Early morning run with Laura went to Ashton Court, also did a loop around the bike tracks in fifty acres wood. Not surprisingly had to work quite hard and a bit knackered afterwards

Saturday Aug 22, 2020 #

1 AM

off road 57:00 [3] 5.5 mi (10:22 / mi)

Early morning run with Laura and David Goy, quite heavy showers so went to Leigh Woods. Route and distance amended to fit time available and just a cruise around for the youngsters
2 AM

off road 2:45:00 [3] 12.5 mi (13:12 / mi)

Resolved clash of things to do by doing both. Met with Dave and Celia for an afternoon run (/walk) from Sapperton. Some glorious countryside and unusual early industry in villages and towns near the canal. Out and back on the Wysis Way and link through the Toadsmoor valley. Quite a fascinating part of the world. Some quite steep hills which gave an excuse to walk and a break from running. A rally good way to spend a pleasant afternoon.

Friday Aug 21, 2020 #

off road 1:14:36 [3] 6.8 mi (10:58 / mi)

Strong winds so modified run to stay off the high ridge. Around woods and then down and up the Frome Valley. Not unpleasant, quite warn and only occasional showers.

Thursday Aug 20, 2020 #

off road 1:21:00 [3] 7.5 mi (10:48 / mi)

Run from Holford into the Quantocks with Mark, Alice, Chris and Helen. Colours particularly the deep purple of the heather and the yellow of the course were wonderful, and great views. It really is outstanding and well worth braving the traffic. Good company and post run coffee and cake!

Wednesday Aug 19, 2020 #

off road 52:28 [3] 5.0 mi (10:30 / mi)

Purdown, not too much today so a non standard route with only two hills

Tuesday Aug 18, 2020 #

off road 1:10:12 [3] 7.2 mi (9:45 / mi)

BOK Run with Scott and Agnes -along the Frome Valley from Frenchay. starting with Oldbury Court. Not quite so many hills as my routes so average pace a bit quicker

Monday Aug 17, 2020 #

off road 1:11:03 [3] 6.7 mi (10:36 / mi)

CW north from Old Sodbury with Keith, Mark and Alice good company and a nice steady run -very pleasant way to spend an evening

Sunday Aug 16, 2020 #

off road 1:32:58 [3] 9.0 mi (10:20 / mi)

Ran loop from Cold Ashton quite hard. Definitely getting muddier and still quite humid, but no thunder storms etc. Some traffic chaos so returned via busy A320 and Ring road. Very occasionally I pick up some pollen or some such that makes my eyes sore and puffy and can be quite unpleasant to drive. Today was such a day, took some allergy tablets that seem effective but mske me drowsy...not a particularly productive afternoon

Saturday Aug 15, 2020 #

off road 1:21:32 [3] 8.0 mi (10:11 / mi)

North on the CW from Old Sodbury. Ran quite early and was rewarded with just light drizzle. Seemed to be a bit heavy legged and struggled on the hills. Got to the turn in 43.05, so slower than recent. Felt better and did quite a good last quarter, so time not so bad all things considered.

Friday Aug 14, 2020 #

off road 1:01:32 [3] 6.0 mi (10:15 / mi)

Purdown, recent rain has meant its just a little muddy, and with the reduced temperature it was fine for running. After 10 mins I noticed I was a bit shorter than sometimes so deliberately pushed on including the last section. Not a bad time but not quite late Spring, this time is probably representative of where I am.

Thursday Aug 13, 2020 #

off road 1:21:24 [3] 7.0 mi (11:38 / mi)

Morning run with Mark and Alice. Twmbarlwm , one of the longer options and includes a long hill. Much better training than recently and although humiod a bit cooler. Enjoyed this run

Wednesday Aug 12, 2020 #

hill efforts 1:05:56 [3] 5.0 mi (13:11 / mi)

Could not face a run in the sunshine so did multiple small loops around the many new paths in the local woods. Then did 8 x short hill (70secs?) at the end so that it had some kind of training benefit. Just a case of doing something where possible until normal temperatures return

Tuesday Aug 11, 2020 #

Controlling 1:10:00 [1] 6.0 km (11:40 / km)

Decided that its just not possible for me to do anything like normal training if the temperature approaches 30 degrees so went to Ashton Court to make use of the day. Out for a long time, initially running but mostly walking as but boiled in heat and although I had taken water quite distressed when I got back to the car and not all issues resolved.
Representative time and distance

Monday Aug 10, 2020 #

off road 1:11:12 [3] 6.6 mi (10:47 / mi)

Very hot humid evening., with Monday night runners. Car thought it was 29 at the start. Ran from Cold Ashton but truncated route coming down Mill Lane. Plenty long enough. not to bad a time considering humidity. It did rain but on the journey home.

Sunday Aug 9, 2020 #

orienteering (Urban) 53:23 [4] 6.4 km (8:20 / km)

Ran around Bradley Stoke course, mid afternoon and too hot and humid. Felt quite rough om completion. Not dealing too well with heat. Made two errors/ big hesitations as later on may also have been due to being fried. Overall quite pleased with the time

Saturday Aug 8, 2020 #

off road 1:00:27 [4] 6.0 mi (10:05 / mi)

Leigh Woods, a particularly hot day so went over early to run in the shade. Ran quite quickly and with a small error missing a turn and some avoidance of the many visitors could have been counted as just under the hour

Friday Aug 7, 2020 #

off road 1:21:00 [3] 6.9 mi (11:44 / mi)

It was going to be a hot day and was and was already quite humid when Mark, Alice and I left the Wireworks car park, for a sort of reverse Tintern Trot.
(Good displays in car park, the 17-18th century wire drawing process is quite ingenious with two sets of guys in line on a type of big swing running the embryonic hot wire through sets of reducing diameter dies. The swing (and presumably furnace bellows) driven by a water wheel, not a job I would like to do if re-incarnated into the past.
Route was a good choice as 80%+ in the much cooler woodland. Followed by ice cream and coffee out side the old station cafe - all really very good, particularly the company. Hot day but clouded over later so suspect avoided 30+ degrees. (Not a good day to be a wire worker)

Thursday Aug 6, 2020 #

off road 59:53 [3] 6.5 mi (9:13 / mi)

Went to (topical) Hawksbury Upton. Ran quite hard and the two hills are as ever challenging. Quite hot and humid day so drizzle later on very welcome. I had looked at the map before hand, my route actually comes out at the Monument but the map has the CW further north (perhaps CW has changed)
so turned left and ran along road to village and down hill on southern lane. I should have gone just right and down the northern lane. So missed out the section with the track/ path along the foot of the hill. Rather went immediately back up the steep path. As a result I was at the (Duck pond) track near the village in just under 50 mins , so ran out and back (north) along the track to the road. I pushed this quite hard which resulted in an unusually quick mins/ mile.

Wednesday Aug 5, 2020 #

off road 54:07 [3] 5.0 mi (10:49 / mi)

Standard run from Swineford to Race Course and Round Hill. Heavy legged to start with and so quite surprised how quick the run was at the end

Tuesday Aug 4, 2020 #

off road 1:03:08 [3] 6.8 mi (9:17 / mi)

Went to the BOK Run at Clevedon. Tommi has been putting routes on the web to run anytime but we are now resuming meeting at 19.00 and ran as two groups x3. Really lovely north run along the coast path up the hill over the Common and woodland and then a loop of the town woods, passed the cricket pitch and returned along coast path from the south. Enjoyed this outing , ran with Tommi and Scott. Kept up, listening to their chat for 35 mins but would probably have been well advised to let them go, as started to struggle a bit. Generously they slowed for second half. Reminisced about a glorious Tuesday evening when after a typical hilly Costwold run the 3 Amegos ran an extra 3km stride for stride at some pace along the lanes cruising into Hawkesbury Upton whilst the locals threw petals onto the road and cheered .... or something like that ......

Monday Aug 3, 2020 #

off road 1:26:00 [3] 8.4 mi (10:14 / mi)

Busy during the day so went to Monday run with Keith, Mark and Alice. in early evening. Ran faster than on my own as others pushed the pace but would have struggled if any of the young guns had been there. Ran out of the back of Ashton Court where many of the paths are closed around Abbotts Pool due it seems to the pandemic (wild swimming?)

Sunday Aug 2, 2020 #

off road 2:22:00 [3] 12.5 mi (11:22 / mi)

Run with Dave and Celia from Ogbourne St Andrew including a section of the Ridgeway, Quite a lot of big tracks, gallops etc. and not by favourite, but really nice to visit the variety of countryside and another delightful English village might try the route again

Saturday Aug 1, 2020 #

off road 1:03:00 [3] 6.0 mi (10:30 / mi)

Ran quite hard around standard Purdown route but messed up timing so just a guess. May have been a bit quicker as pushed hard over the last wood section and time quite good for this bit
