off road 59:38 [2] 4.5 mi (13:15 / mi)

After a day of lying on the sofa and one where I took a break from this task for a short stroll on Purdown and whilst my nose could still run for England and an occasional coughing fit I did feel a bit more chipper so...…..went for a short and very easy potter on Purdown. The knee of course hurt as it always does after a lay off and had I pushed the breathing it would have been disaster; so I did not push. However was really enjoying being out and stayed out longer that anticipated

Note

Note
2013 1167 in 242 hours at 4.82 mph
2014 1275 in 272 hours at 4.68 mph
2015 1334 in 280 hours at 4.76 mph
2016 1315 in 293 hours at 4.48 mph
2017 1462 in 334 hours at 4.38 mph
2018 1626 in 363 hours at 4.48 mph
Speed and distance a bit better than in 2017
Although a bit fragmented and injury affected some races not a bad year at all

Friday Dec 28, 2018 #

Note
(sick)

Overcome with a cold/ man flu so very sorry for self only capable of being in bed or on the sofa in front of TV and so rather than ending the year in style its a bit of a wimp. Grumble, moan , grumble...….pass the lemsip

Thursday Dec 27, 2018 #

off road 50:00 [3] 4.5 mi (11:07 / mi)

Run with Laura around woods. Nice to catch up but starting to feel a bit grim

Wednesday Dec 26, 2018 #

Note

Got up and travelled with family to Sheffield

Tuesday Dec 25, 2018 #

flat efforts 39:00 [4] 3.0 mi (13:00 / mi)

Managed a slot mid cooking as hosting Xmas dinner. Included 8 x 2 mins with 90 secs. Literally run out and back

Monday Dec 24, 2018 #

off road 1:06:53 [3] 6.0 mi (11:09 / mi)

Standard loop around Purdown in the gathering gloom after quite a busy day
Mild not raining but yes wet under foot

Sunday Dec 23, 2018 #

off road 1:15:17 [3] 7.0 mi (10:45 / mi)

Blaise Castle route from Combe Dingle, some parts very slippery and muddy so would have been better in Mudclaws. Ran much better than of late and had to go quite hard to get this time

Saturday Dec 22, 2018 #

off road 40:33 [2] 3.0 mi (13:31 / mi)

Tired and lethargic, may have done a bit too much running recently so was going to have a rest day but decided that a short 'jog' just to loosen legs would be a good compromise so a trip to Oldbury Court. Just by the way of things I don't expect to put in many miles over Xmas which should reinvigourate!

The Frome is very full and flowing fast

Friday Dec 21, 2018 #

flat efforts 55:00 [4] 4.0 mi (13:45 / mi)

Oldbury Court 11 x 2 mins with 90 secs, wet underfoot and windy so not getting as far as normal but felt like a worthwhile session

Note

Went to pub for lunchtime drink, stayed longer than expected - all the afternoon and a fair bit of the evening. Drank more beer than I normally do in a month so in good spirits might just not be quite so festive tomorrow...….?

Thursday Dec 20, 2018 #

off road 1:08:51 [3] 6.0 mi (11:29 / mi)

Standard run around Purdown which is turning into its wet, muddy and greasy self. Struggling again on the hills and tiring after half way so had to run quite hard to keep the time under 70 mins

Wednesday Dec 19, 2018 #

off road 1:45:00 [3] 8.0 mi (13:07 / mi)

Tinsel Trot with chums at a very leisurely pace and plenty of stops so time is a bit of a guess. Very wet on top but glorious views. Great to see the variety of the seasons on the Mendips. A bit surprised (and disappointed?) that the old gits ran away so easily on the hills . Should not have been surprised as I am running 10% slower and struggling with breathing a bit on hills. Just not on top form today for some reason. Pace really does not matter at this time of year and more miles (and a huge custard slice) 'in the bag.'

Tuesday Dec 18, 2018 #

off road 1:03:19 [3] 6.0 mi (10:33 / mi)

Another horrid wet but warm day. Ran from Blaise car park using Mudclaws for first time since OMM, as other shoes soaking. More traction through left foot and so seemed to be running better particularly on downhills. Pushed quite hard from the start so was hoping to approach 60 mins but actually same time as before. Oh well you can only do what you can do.....perhaps this time is actually the new benchmark. Foot not too bad but did hurt post run

Monday Dec 17, 2018 #

1 AM

flat efforts 44:00 [4] 3.0 mi (14:40 / mi)

Downs. First time I have tried any efforts for some considerable while. Pyramid in half mins up to 3 mins (and only one of those) max rest 2 mins. Did not get very far, breathing not great but session done.
2 AM

off road 1:02:00 [3] 5.0 mi (12:24 / mi)

Run up Twmbarlwm with Monday night young guns. Quite a warm night and misty on top. Very slow on down hill. Typical top notch post run hospitality from Mark and Alice much enjoyed by all

Sunday Dec 16, 2018 #

off road 1:27:19 [3] 8.0 mi (10:55 / mi)

CW N from Dog with standard turning point (44.58 mins). Gap in the rain but underfoot wet and in some places slippy. Push on more on the way back. Seem to struggle a bit on hills.

Saturday Dec 15, 2018 #

off road 1:12:00 [3] 6.4 mi (11:15 / mi)

Horrid, wet, cold day and probably caught the peak time of the monsoon.
Leigh Woods, took route that dopes not come back along the Portway again. Time a bit of a quest as got a bit lost in the spiders web of paths, then forgot to check watch, preferring to get changed.

Friday Dec 14, 2018 #

Note

Busy day with no obvious slot for running did go for a few miles walk on Purdown with Charlie

Thursday Dec 13, 2018 #

off road 1:00:17 [3] 5.0 mi (12:03 / mi)

A cold bright winters day ran in multi layers for first time in ages (and may have over done it a bit). Good day for a run, went over the Round hill from Swineford via race course, 37.30 to Round Hill and pushed on a bit on return

Wednesday Dec 12, 2018 #

off road 1:45:00 [3] 10.6 mi (9:54 / mi)

Loop with Mark from Luckington to Westonbirt. Relatively flat, some pretty Cotswold villages and stretches on lanes. Foot fine except for on section where we needed to run in some narrow tractor ruts

Tuesday Dec 11, 2018 #

off road 58:27 [3] 5.0 mi (11:41 / mi)

Run around Ashton Court with Pete, Jo and Sandy. Nice quite warn day -very chatty

Monday Dec 10, 2018 #

off road 1:19:11 [3] 7.4 mi (10:42 / mi)

I had expected it to be a bright sunny day so chose to do and out and back along the coast path from the Portishead Lido, in actual fact it was a grey but warm one, but I still really enjoyed it - the route is just great and the sea always looks different. My knee was sore at the start and took ages to settle down but otherwise although a bit slow ok. Turned at 40.00, slower on way back so had to push over last mile or so to get back under 80.

Sunday Dec 9, 2018 #

off road 1:07:39 [3] 6.0 mi (11:17 / mi)

Standard Purdown loop. Knee was quite painful this a.m. and a bit lethargic so reluctant to go out......but improved whilst running. After a slow start needed to push quite hard to be back in this time. Tiring again later on bot kept going. Knee quite sore again afterwards

Saturday Dec 8, 2018 #

1 AM

off road 20:00 [2] 2.0 km (10:00 / km)

Parked away from event at Haresfield Beacon as requested for single occupancy. Warm up and down on route to Assembly
2 AM

orienteering race 1:06:02 [5] 7.0 km (9:26 / km)

NGOC at Standish Wood -really like this wood, although its steep its quite clean underfoot and quite nice to run through. Often performance marred by occasional invisible pesky pit but todays planner may have been a bit more generous with his hanging. Foot really does not like contouring so chose some routes today were not as straight as I would have normally expected to take. Felt quite tired at 2/3rd distance but race was quite short and was to hang on and not make the big Horlicks that often happens when I tire

Friday Dec 7, 2018 #

off road 1:03:03 [3] 6.0 mi (10:31 / mi)

Blaise loop from the car park, on another warm but grey day. Foot not great but pushed quite hard

Thursday Dec 6, 2018 #

off road 55:07 [3] 5.0 mi (11:01 / mi)

Shorter version on Purdown (but still with 3 hills) in order to give foot some respite - not too bad on run but painful afterwards

Wednesday Dec 5, 2018 #

off road 14:00 [2] 0.7 mi (20:00 / mi)

Warm up
2 AM

orienteering race 1:24:23 [4] 8.2 km (10:17 / km)

Orienteering MLS at Sidbury Hill. This proved to be a step too far. The terrain although actually relatively gentle proved to be too tough and by the later stages of the race my foot was sore and progress on downhills etc that of a snail. Hopefully not too much damage done.
Lack of concentration on short leg to no 9 and suddenly no idea where I was, took ages and a diversion to relocate -could have been as much as 4 mins.

Tuesday Dec 4, 2018 #

off road 1:12:12 [4] 7.0 mi (10:19 / mi)

Run from the Priory at Portbury, nice sunny but not very warm day -ideal for running. soft underfoot good for the foot -lots of gates and styles to climb..... and you do get to see an elephant. Pushed a bit harder from the start and a better pace than recent runs

Monday Dec 3, 2018 #

off road 1:25:22 [3] 7.0 mi (12:12 / mi)

Purdown, Eastville park. Frome valley and into Oldbury Court

Sunday Dec 2, 2018 #

off road 1:06:25 [3] 6.0 mi (11:04 / mi)

Purdown standard route, getting wetter and more greasy. Would do much better in the mudclaws but they are a suspect in the foot saga. Slow on downhills but seemed a bit stronger on the up

Some doubt about time …..could have benn 76.25, (i.e. 12.44mins/mile) ??

Saturday Dec 1, 2018 #

off road 1:51:00 [2] 8.0 mi (13:52 / mi)

Run/walk on the CW with Ash and Ange from Alderley to the Dog. Good to catch up with them. Day was quite wet so no views bot un-seasonally mild.
