Wednesday May 31, 2017 #

1 AM

off road 15:00 [2] 0.8 mi (18:45 / mi)

Warm up
2 AM

orienteering (Urban) 39:08 [5] 5.7 km (6:52 / km)

Stockwood from South Bristol leisure centre- mostly streets but crossed open/ wooded valley. Probably a relatively simple area but good to go somewhere different and course had good variety. Ok till near end and then perhaps tiring messed up 21 - though you could go into field -when realised not bailed out and went round road, optimum to go on using alleys and then cocked up by going in too early- shame

Tuesday May 30, 2017 #

1 AM

flat efforts 39:00 [5] 3.5 mi (11:09 / mi)

BAWA field 9 x 2min with 30 secs
2 AM

off road 1:05:00 [3] 6.0 mi (10:50 / mi)

BOK run from Black Horse- nice evening. This is quite a hilly run so although a bit shorter than some good training. Sole peeling off shoe which compromised last couple of miles

Monday May 29, 2017 #

off road 1:47:30 [3] 9.0 mi (11:57 / mi)

Cold Ashton down to bottom of valley and along, turning off near Marshfield then east Green and Halldoor Lanes turning south after Ashwicke Farm, through edge of Rocks Woods and further south to and up St Catherines valley, regaining Limestone link and back to Cold Ashton via Slough Lane
Plenty of cow meadows and long grass. Odd to run in rain and get completely soaked but still warm

Sunday May 28, 2017 #

off road 1:09:04 [3] 6.8 mi (10:09 / mi)

Run from Portbury not too hot but getting a bit overgrown in places

Saturday May 27, 2017 #

Note

Out at Bradley Stoke but just walking - feeling very jaded and lacking enthusiasm.

Friday May 26, 2017 #

off road 51:08 [3] 5.0 mi (10:14 / mi)

Run before breakfast and heat, shorter Purdown variant but still three hills

Thursday May 25, 2017 #

Note

Margarette's funeral which was in many ways what she would have organised -a very positive Family and Friends day. More to think about than running

Wednesday May 24, 2017 #

1 AM

off road 38:00 [2] 4.0 km (9:30 / km)

Run to and from Oldbury Court car park and warm up
2 AM

orienteering race (Urban) 49:04 [5] 6.3 km (7:47 / km)

Oldbury Court and Frome valley - different slant on the area, very hot day and and still troublingly hot when I started
Course - some quite long legs- think I had most of the routes except the leg back ok but I did climb up the crag onto the ring road. It also featured control 10 - a tree, not marked on the map - the chosen one was quite non-descript and not particularly close to circle. At first sight ridiculous but I guess there is some story. Only 1 min lost, although it broke my momentum and I was a bit pissy with the planner in actual fact should probably think of this as time saved. There was also the biggest 1m crag in the world perhaps the '0' had gone missing.

Tuesday May 23, 2017 #

1 AM

flat efforts 51:00 [5] 4.0 mi (12:45 / mi)

Oldbury Court 11 x 2 mins with 90 secs - cloudy so temperature and running conditions excellent and session went pretty well
2 AM

off road 1:10:00 [3] 6.0 mi (11:40 / mi)

BOK Run Hawksbury Upton - quite hilly and felt a bit rough at start of run but ok towards end . Nice sunny evening - I do like running in the Cotswolds it was a spectacularly beautiful evening - a good to be alive run

Monday May 22, 2017 #

off road 53:09 [4] 5.0 mi (10:38 / mi)

Hot afternoon so ran quite late in the day from Swineford. Despite heat ran quite hard back from the Round Hill. Stopped for a couple of mins to try to fix a gate -stopped watch. 32 mins to top

Sunday May 21, 2017 #

off road 1:32:34 [3] 8.0 mi (11:34 / mi)

Tinsel Trot but from top car park, and with a diversion in Rowberrow.
Conditions nice but underfoot and time returned to nornal

REST DAY

Wednesday May 17, 2017 #

1 AM

off road 15:00 [2] 0.7 mi (21:25 / mi)

Warm up

orienteering race 1:47:23 [4] 7.9 km (13:36 / km)

BAOC at wet Windmill Hill - after long wait in rain at start got very cold, miss read code at 2 and went away........downhill from there.
Not a day out to remember (but excellent Evening!)

Also training push is starting to be tiring need to ease off for short while or risk an injury

Tuesday May 16, 2017 #

1 AM

flat efforts 46:07 [5] 4.0 mi (11:32 / mi)

Pomfrey Hill - 5x1km using km marks with approx. 2 mins in between - a bit windy, probably about 4mins 20 secs per km
2 AM

off road 1:12:28 [3] 7.5 mi (9:40 / mi)

BOK run from the Windmill - mostly along the coast path -really enjoyed this option. Good to see Ifor back and setting pace.

Monday May 15, 2017 #

off road 1:04:30 [3] 7.0 mi (9:13 / mi)

Leigh Woods loop -weather forecast was poor got round in the dry. Everywhere still dry and Nightingale valley path improved - so time much faster than sloshing around in the mud

Sunday May 14, 2017 #

off road 1:37:06 [3] 9.0 mi (10:47 / mi)

From Swineford up hill and round to race course passed pub down to farm and then up track to join CW round the battlefield and back through Upton Cheyney. Still keen to exploit running conditions lots of climb in this one incluiding two full ascents of the Cotswold Edge.

Saturday May 13, 2017 #

off road 1:13:03 [4] 8.0 mi (9:08 / mi)

CW North from Dog. Ideal running conditions, bone dry little wind not too hot -foot on the gas from the start, 37 mins to the turn so not surprisingly a bit fatigued on return - delighted with this time

Note

A couple of hours walking in boots exploring some ideas for Bradley Stoke

Friday May 12, 2017 #

off road 1:40:00 [3] 9.5 mi (10:32 / mi)

Nice, social run with Pete and Jo along Ridgeway from West Kennett to Ogbourne St George

Thursday May 11, 2017 #

orienteering (Urban) 52:00 [3] 6.0 km (8:40 / km)

Bradley Stoke East 6 km street course 49.54 ran late in day to allow some recovery particularly on knee - 2 small mistakes so concentration not too sharp

Wednesday May 10, 2017 #

1 AM

off road 1:03:34 [3] 6.0 mi (10:36 / mi)

Standard Purdown run - bone dry - still a bit worried by swollen and painful knee
2 AM

Controlling 2:00:00 [2] 8.0 km (15:00 / km)

Pomphrey Hill to Siston Common - control hanging, collecting etc

Tuesday May 9, 2017 #

1 AM

flat efforts 48:00 [5] 4.0 mi (12:00 / mi)

Ran at Pomphrey Hill - warmed up and then 5km of 2min efforts with 90 secs break - don't know how many and did one extra
2 AM

Controlling 1:00:00 [2] 4.0 km (15:00 / km)

Planning Pomphrey to Siston
Knee very sore and swollen had thought about BOK run but had to bail out

Monday May 8, 2017 #

Note

Travel and with lots on ended up not running probably a good idea

I did really enjoy the trip to Sheffield and the Lakes with Laura and Evie, we seemed to be able to make the split starts work although orienteering with a small one in tow is not easy.

Weekend was overshadowed by the end of Margarette's struggle which has made us all very sad

Sunday May 7, 2017 #

off road 15:00 [2] 0.7 mi (21:25 / mi)

Warm up
1 AM

orienteering race 34:42 [5] 3.4 km (10:12 / km)

British Relays at Summerhouse Knott. Quite a good run (leading time 32 mins) but not good enough to challenge - as third leg had opportunity to take notice of others comments and ran quite cautiously especially in first part where there was fallen timber -lots of controls. Missed no 3 as pushed off line rest really ok but particularly second half (easier) could have been smoother

Saturday May 6, 2017 #

1 AM

off road 18:00 [2] 1.0 mi (18:00 / mi)

Good warm up
2 AM

orienteering race 1:21:25 [5] 7.0 km (11:38 / km) +355m 9:17 / km

British Champs at High Dam (18/71 +19.4 mins)- overall a bit disappointing and an opportunity missed. Excellent forest in great condition -very challenging - we did just run in the 'old bit' . Had decided on a round route to no 2 but then seduced by elephant track, missed overshot and caught by guy starting 2 mins later. Real disaster at no 8 which was just following a wall - disorientated, lost, much too high on the hill and lost 8 mins. At 17 big banana probably lost 1min.
And the rest......well really quite good with splits in top 10 without number 8 it would have been a really good result - 10+ mins behind leaders but just don't go that quick

Friday May 5, 2017 #

1 AM

orienteering 40:00 [2] 4.0 km (10:00 / km)

Tankersley with Laura - nice day
2 AM

orienteering 25:00 [3] 2.5 km (10:00 / km)

Burbage mines with Laura

Thursday May 4, 2017 #

Note

Mostly travel but some walking with Evie

Wednesday May 3, 2017 #

1 AM

flat efforts 36:00 [5] 3.5 mi (10:17 / mi)

Little Stoke field 20 (probably 21) x 1 min with 30 secs
2 AM

off road 15:00 [2] 0.8 mi (18:45 / mi)

Warm up
3 AM

orienteering race (Urban) 48:15 [5] 6.2 km (7:47 / km)

UBOC at halls of residence and Stoke Bishop very good race
Started running to 9 rather than 6, this also happened going to 19 rather than 18 and in both cases had to correct losing time (15-20 secs each) Also (40 stuffed up the short leg 13-14 (40secs) at the end it was very dark and had to keep stopping to look for the last few controls on the map back in the University. That said a pretty pleasing run but even taking this time back was again stuffed by Chris who is just going faster

Tuesday May 2, 2017 #

Note
(rest day)

Although though about running tired, pre-occupied with news and looking for an easy week.

I did enjoy the Irish trip and would like to visit Galway/ Mayo again possibly to do more hillwalking. I would also like to visit other parts. Whilst I don't see it being an annual pilgrimage I would go to future Irish Champs -next years races are in Donegal

Monday May 1, 2017 #

1 AM

off road 15:00 [2] 0.6 km (25:00 / km)

Warm up
2 AM

orienteering 32:33 [5] 3.4 km (9:34 / km)

Irish relay champs (5/11) Derreighter- a while since I have run leg 1 a little too much looking at the other blokes and not enough positivity. Went to wrong no 2 and a genuine mistake at 4 going to parallel set of features. A bit down on the other guys who were going faster but ok
