off road 58:58 [3] 5.0 mi (11:48 / mi)

Loop around Ashton Court -stags are magnificent at this time of year. Foot not great at the start (down hill) and rain jacket on and off in the showers, Ran well towards end.

Thursday Nov 29, 2018 #

off road 1:06:02 [3] 6.0 mi (11:00 / mi)

Stong wind and rain am so waited till pm to run. Standard Blaise route from car park. Conditions not too bad. Had to try quite hard to get this time. Whilst it was quite wet and I was slow on the downhills I had hoped for sub 65, so in consistent with +10%. Good training though

off road 8:00 [2] 0.4 mi (20:00 / mi)

warm up

orienteering 1:08:10 [5] 8.0 km (8:31 / km)

Dibden Purlieu MLS Event, weather forecast was dire, gales and driving rain -it was wet and it was windy but it was also 13 degrees so my decision to run in a waterproof top which was completely unnecessary unless you also wanted to boil rice in a bag on the way around. Area was also completely flat and mostly open with New Forest heather and the map looked simplistic. Completely flat however gives its own difficulties and the planner had avoided the temptation to use small pits etc. unless there was an adjacent feature. It was also wet (a good place to practice for Estonia?), whilst pussy footing around one puddle I was passed by Alex 'in we go!' was the encouraging holler. I was pleased to see that he only went up to his waist so would not need to swim. I was less pleased to see that when I emerged from the swamp he had disappeared over the horizon.

One area of map both Mark and I found somewhat confusing; basically the cause was a hill that was bigger that expected. Post race grokelling revealed the somewhat bizzarly an index contour had gone AWOL and crossed a number of its chums -how odd!

A really fun race, despite holding up the results board -its a really great facet of the sport to go to different and preferably unknown areas.

off road 1:05:10 [3] 6.0 mi (10:52 / mi)

A wet and windy day so went to Leigh Woods and same route as Saturday. Got out before the storm arrived so relatively good conditions. Started much quicker and towards end ran behind a lady runner (who I could not catch) she was running well and the effort to keep her in sight kept me honest. Quite a bit quicker but (there is always a but....) foot sorer than previous by end. Still quite pleased

Monday Nov 26, 2018 #

off road 1:10:10 [3] 6.0 mi (11:42 / mi)

Nice sunny and quite warm for the standard Purdown run, seemed to be trying quite hard most of the way round but not very strong on hills up or down. Quite pleased for what is probably a personnel worst for this route but still that's the where I am and the way it goes

Sunday Nov 25, 2018 #

off road 1:21:30 [3] 7.0 mi (11:39 / mi)
(injured)

CW going north from Old Sodbury, truncated turning at the end of the wood. A very ordinary grey cold autumn day and a very weak grey run

Saturday Nov 24, 2018 #

off road 1:12:00 [3] 6.0 mi (12:00 / mi)
(injured)

Damp day, ran in Leigh Woods, stayed high on the route back. Time a bit of a guess because stopped watch. Did feel easier today

Friday Nov 23, 2018 #

Note

Did not run today needed to give foot a chance

Thursday Nov 22, 2018 #

off road 58:54 [3] 5.0 mi (11:47 / mi)
(injured)

Ashton Court run in the cold and sunshine. (Deer are magnificent at this time of year). Foot no worse as a result of yesterday nor any better painful particularly on downhill but perhaps running a bit better

Wednesday Nov 21, 2018 #

orienteering race 1:29:27 [4] 8.0 km (11:11 / km)
(injured)

BAOC event at Long Valley - bright, sunny but cold day very much enjoyed pottering around the course. 'O' shoes were surprisingly comfortable and foot not too painful but rough and downhill difficult. Foot hurt more afterwards and not really ready to run in any sort of terrain. Was quite lost/ confused at 17 and took ages for short leg, the rest was quite straight forward, tended to take path routes to minimise tussocks in open, much of forest very runnable.

Tuesday Nov 20, 2018 #

off road 1:07:10 [3] 5.0 mi (13:26 / mi)
(injured)

Swineford run on a cold, crisp sunny day (in thermal). Steady run not too bad on ups but very slow on downs -foot still not right but getting accustomed to limping along

Monday Nov 19, 2018 #

off road 1:07:10 [3] 5.2 mi (12:55 / mi)
(injured)

Different variant of 5.5 mile Purdown run but does have the three hills. Still stiffed legged (this could be because I cannot push through the foot?).
Windy but sunny and not the promised cold snap yet

Sunday Nov 18, 2018 #

off road 1:12:22 [3] 5.5 mi (13:09 / mi)
(injured)

Usual route across Purdown ran into cyclocross race (which look good fun!) so short circuit to Eastville Park and mostly in the Frome valley. In some ways a step back as hamstring again sore and still very slow but a lovely balmy autumn day to be out running

Friday Nov 16, 2018 #

Note

In Sheffield visiting Goys for a couple of days - no running

Thursday Nov 15, 2018 #

off road 51:00 [3] 4.0 mi (12:45 / mi)
(injured)

Purdown, flat route with single hill. Tried a bit harder but time still slow. Knee ached at start (Its worse than pre omm?) and foot later. Still feeling a bit stronger in general

Wednesday Nov 14, 2018 #

off road 1:04:41 [3] 5.0 mi (12:56 / mi)
(injured)

Loop of Ashton Court, slow and stiff again. Foot more painful, particularly at start (downhill?). Felt I was running a bit better towards the end

Tuesday Nov 13, 2018 #

off road 58:27 [2] 4.0 mi (14:37 / mi)
(injured)

Oldbury Court (the efforts run without the efforts). Running very stiffly (and slowly) and not huge amount of energy - as witnessed by the time, however there are some hills and foot still aches but no worse despite a variety of surfaces

Monday Nov 12, 2018 #

off road 53:33 [2] 4.0 mi (13:23 / mi)
(injured)

Purdown, basically flat again but did included a hill. Survived, could feel all the niggles but better than other days probably less aches but not ready for orienteering/ rough off road.

Sunday Nov 11, 2018 #

off road 45:02 [2] 3.5 mi (12:52 / mi)
(injured)

Same run on Purdown as yesterday. Same report on aches and pains. Not getting any worse!

Saturday Nov 10, 2018 #

off road 45:32 [2] 3.5 mi (13:01 / mi)
(injured)

Flat run around top of Purdown. Issue today was that L hamstring is a bit tight probably due to this being a limp rather than a run.
Ran in soft offroad shoes. Foot uncomfortable particularly if there is some camber

Friday Nov 9, 2018 #

off road 29:59 [3] 3.0 mi (10:00 / mi)
(injured)

3 laps of BAWA field (its about a mile a lap I know this as I ran in a measured mile race here many moons ago...…..)

Body (inc R knee) felt much easier today but could feel L hamstring near end (probably due to foot placement causing stress??
Foot uncomfortable but again on flat grass and road shoes no worse

Thursday Nov 8, 2018 #

off road 30:27 [2] 2.0 mi (15:13 / mi)
(injured)

Gentle jog around the Downs in road shoes basically to check out how the body was. The foot ached but no more than driving but it was in part masked because right knee was painful. (In general knee and general health and well being are better if I exercise daily)
