Wednesday Nov 30, 2016 #

1 AM

off road 18:00 [2] 1.0 mi (18:00 / mi)

Warm up
2 AM

orienteering 1:03:50 [5] 8.4 km (7:36 / km)

BAOC at Greenham Common West. Very cold bright day excellent for running in the sun. Trying pretty hard and very enjoyable. However missed control 6, small depression by pond. Found one straight away but no control, circled around and lost loads of time started to leave and then found flag. Grr.. (pond smaller than on map) -inevitably stuffed up 7.
Also lost time at 16,17,18 really needed to hold direction much better in grotty wood. All the rest reasonable but really an area to lose no time.

Tuesday Nov 29, 2016 #

off road 47:10 [3] 4.0 mi (11:48 / mi)

CW N from Tormardon. Felt really tired but needed to escape decorating disasters and get into the sunshine. Very tired and lethargic so skipped plan for BOK run

Monday Nov 28, 2016 #

off road 1:00:33 [3] 6.0 mi (10:06 / mi)

Lovely sunny day -Blaise Castle from main car park -middle of the day, a bit jaded at the start but pushing hard and going well in the second half - always find sessions in Blaise whether fast or slow worthwhile

Sunday Nov 27, 2016 #

1 AM

road run 20:00 [2] 1.0 mi (20:00 / mi)

Lots of running around mostly before the run
2 AM

orienteering race 1:17:58 [5] 7.4 km (10:32 / km)

QO gallopen at Ramscombe -mixed lots in oak woodland -really enjoyed this race. Many might say this is not particularly technical but for me a good challenge. Bit of silly wobbles at 3 and 15 -otherwise ok. Pretty tired at the end. My foot was a bit sore which may have slowed be down

Saturday Nov 26, 2016 #

1 AM

road run (headlight) 20:00 [2] 1.0 mi (20:00 / mi)

Good warm up despite being dark
2 AM

orienteering race (Night O) 48:10 [4] 4.0 km (12:03 / km)

Southern night champs -QO at Ramscombe - did not cross the road into Quantock North - I am sure this would have been superb at night
Disappointed with myself -tactic was to stick to the tracks, even if it lost time on a particular leg, but did not stick to the tactic and so came unstuck losing time at a number of controls and ending up with a messy run

Friday Nov 25, 2016 #

off road 1:10:10 [3] 6.0 mi (11:42 / mi)

Ran with Pete from Portbury (included Ifor's diversion off rather than along A road) thought we were going pretty well so would have guessed we would be a little quicker -but hey ho that's the way it goes. Good training we should do this again

Note

Went for lowland walk with Charlie half in daylight half gloom/ dark -Dryham about 3 miles in 90 mins

Thursday Nov 24, 2016 #

off road 1:11:48 [3] 6.5 mi (11:03 / mi)

Frome valley -not particularly quick but plenty of hills.
Bottom of heel a bit sore but able to complete

Wednesday Nov 23, 2016 #

off road 17:00 [2] 1.0 mi (17:00 / mi)

Warm up
2 AM

orienteering race 1:04:36 [5] 7.6 km (8:30 / km)

Army event at Bulford Ridge- quite good race either fussing in an area of trenches/ pits or relatively straightforward Salisbury Plain -tracks, fields, thickets etc. Veg mapping a bit odd (out of date?) in one area semi open proved impenetrable 14 (should have gone round) and at 18 went round and it was actually fast run (but hey ho). Went wrong way out of the start -unhelpful and lost location on the tricky no 3 (despite recognition and slowing down. Faster than of late probably due to path running content.
Heel a bit sore (stood on rock running down stony track) -ouch!

Tuesday Nov 22, 2016 #

1 AM

flat efforts (Road) 37:30 [5] 3.0 mi (12:30 / mi)

Everywhere soaked, and still raining, so went to Abbeywood. Always find this session difficult, and last time picked up a strain, a so just did one lap.
6 x 2 mins with 90 secs
2 AM

road run (headlight) 1:05:00 [3] 6.0 mi (10:50 / mi)

BOK run Portishead - some off road but majority tarmac - lots of climb and steps - town should perhaps be call 'Stepshead' -my knees don't like steps!
Good training

Monday Nov 21, 2016 #

off road 54:23 [3] 5.0 mi (10:53 / mi)

Horrid wet day- left run till late but still soaked. Was initially just going to be a token gesture to stop getting stir crazy in the house but did more inc 3 hills

Sunday Nov 20, 2016 #

off road 1:09:32 [3] 6.0 mi (11:35 / mi)

Purdown, late in afternoon. Standard route with wood twice.
Area is no longer dry -back to the mud!

Saturday Nov 19, 2016 #

1 AM

road run 22:00 [1] 1.0 mi (22:00 / mi)

good long extended warm up
2 AM

orienteering race 1:26:58 [4] 5.3 km (16:25 / km)

NGOC local at Kindalls -badl mistake going to 3 - went towards 9 and then swapped to tracks but completely wrong direction, meaning an extra climb of the hill. Probably not too bad after that but quite slow, particularly in the terrain.. Dibber did not register at 11 -odd

Friday Nov 18, 2016 #

Note

Lowland Walk: South Downs Way Exton to Bicerton 12 miles again 5 and a half hours. More varied and undulating -in fact avery good day. Felt stronger

Thursday Nov 17, 2016 #

Note

Lowland walk South Downs Way: Winchester to Exton 11 miles five and a half hours -quite a good pace. Knees and body a bit knackered (surprising?)

Wednesday Nov 16, 2016 #

1 AM

off road 18:50 [2] 1.0 mi (18:50 / mi)

Good warm up
2 AM

orienteering race 1:13:30 [4] 5.2 km (14:08 / km)

BOK Army -pop up event at High Meadow Wood.
Frankly I was a bit of a shambles today, got a bit (needlessly) frustrated about some of the controls where I just needed to be more careful, culminating in spending 11 mins looking for the last one. Still good training with lots of running in the terrain albeit slowly

Tuesday Nov 15, 2016 #

1 AM

flat efforts 55:00 [5] 4.0 mi (13:45 / mi)

Oldbury Court 11 x 2 mins with 90 secs. Not particularly good or bad but done
2 AM

road run (headlight) 1:02:00 [3] 6.0 mi (10:20 / mi)

BOK run from Bradley Stoke, mixture of on and off road but mostly road including a loop of Aztec West which took 7.27 -which whilst a bit disappointing is still an effort

Monday Nov 14, 2016 #

Note

Mountain Walk with Kelsey's -sort of Fairfield horseshoe from Grasmere, mostly in mist but when there were views these were fantastic. An extra steep climb - probably about 15 km and 6 hours

Sunday Nov 13, 2016 #

1 AM

off road 25:00 [2] 1.5 mi (16:40 / mi)

Jogging to and from start and finish - not really a proper warm up at isloated high start
2 AM

orienteering 1:36:33 [5] 7.9 km (12:13 / km)

Torver High Common, very enjoyable runnable open area, on balmy but grey afternoon. Where did all the time go? Very late start and so a lonely run this may not have helped. Misread ground at 3 (stupid) went away from control,.(4 mins??), a few others like wrong crag at 10 and too high to 12. Weary and plodding over last few but really just need to go faster. Liked race but not result

Saturday Nov 12, 2016 #

1 AM

off road 20:00 [2] 1.0 mi (20:00 / mi)

Good warm up
2 AM

orienteering race 41:17 [5] 4.3 km (9:36 / km)

Middle race at Sandscale Haws, Barrow. As good a run as I have had for some time. Found the map at 1:7500 clear and only 'mistakes' were really finding controls in the circle did go to wrong control at no 10 but able to quickly relocate
3 AM

Note

Late afternoon Mountain Walk with Kelsey's 2 hours mostly in mist 8km? 'White Coombe'

Friday Nov 11, 2016 #

Note

Mountain walk Wetherlam, Swirll How, Old Man loop keeping good pace qith good sized group: Fosters, Kelseys, Simmons
Snow quite low down, missed came and went, excellent day.
I understand was 21km probably 7 hours

Thursday Nov 10, 2016 #

Note

Travel to Lake District with Pete & Jo no opportunity for exercise

Wednesday Nov 9, 2016 #

1 AM

off road 13:00 [2] 1.0 mi (13:00 / mi)

Warm up
2 AM

orienteering race 1:18:30 [5] 8.3 km (9:27 / km)

Army event at Bramshott Common- interesting area mostly semi-open -first part quite rough/ tussocks -very slow here, later part clumps of trees in mowed grass- did much better here. Did not find control 3, 5.40 v Mark's 1.10, just could not see it! Paid far too much attention to vegetation which needed and update - also lost time on 5 where I hunted in lots of bracken filled depressions and 6 where I looked in the bracken and was actually by the track. Went too straight early on. Rest of course ok -did lose small amounts of time but with 27 controls that was always going to be the case for my technical competence. One control had the wrong code and split has been taken out of the results - a bit of a shame as it was a good one for me.
Tried hard, ran well but again a long way down -bit of a theme!
Glad I went to this race

Tuesday Nov 8, 2016 #

flat efforts 54:30 [5] 4.0 mi (13:38 / mi)

Oldbury Court 11 x 2 mins with 90 secs. Enjoyed the variety, and possibly ran a bit better -went early to try to avoid the rain

Monday Nov 7, 2016 #

off road 1:01:26 [3] 5.0 mi (12:17 / mi)

Swineford run -cold day and gathering gloom -good visibility from top of the Round Hill. Had intended to do more but limited by time (and enthusiasm?)

Sunday Nov 6, 2016 #

1 AM

off road 10:00 [2] 1.0 mi (10:00 / mi)

Warm up etc
2 AM

orienteering 1:01:30 [5] 7.7 km (7:59 / km)

November classic at Fritham -forest was in great condition a joy to run through - I though I had run quite well but actually 10+ mins down - I did make an error at 10 where I ran off line to a visible wrong control.
In retrospect other controls e. 7, 12, 15 may not have been that clean or not positive enough. Will be interesting to see splits

Saturday Nov 5, 2016 #

road run 15:00 [2] 1.0 mi (15:00 / mi)

Warm up
2 AM

orienteering (Urban) 54:37 [5] 5.5 km (9:56 / km)

Winchester (SALISBURY!) urban - a bit of a disaster -never really got into this, I don't know why -riddled with mistakes. Need to do some kind of post mortem

Friday Nov 4, 2016 #

flat efforts 43:30 [5] 3.0 mi (14:30 / mi)

Downs -pyramid 30 secs to 3 mins with max 2 mins. Another very ordinary session - I guess I need to get used to not getting much out of these sessions. No knees, ankles, feet etc to complain about!
But there was rain (actually quite light by the time I ran) -how odd is that!

Thursday Nov 3, 2016 #

off road 55:31 [3] 5.0 mi (11:06 / mi)

In two minds as to whether to take today off as legs were not in great shape, but ran late afternoon on Purdown and kept in steady and took shorter option. Glad I did - although a bit colder still nice for running

Wednesday Nov 2, 2016 #

1 AM

road run 12:00 [2] 1.0 mi (12:00 / mi)

Not a great warm up but warm up -a bit heavy legged
2 AM

orienteering race (Urban) 1:13:42 [5] 9.1 km (8:06 / km)

Army event at ATR Winchester -about 40% in barracks which was nice grass/ path running with enough discreet buildings to keep honesty and 60% in the nice woods/ rough grasslands of the surrounds. 35 controls only really had problems with seeing some of the numerous posts (ex radio mast foundations?) - a couple of legs probably ran too straight rather than path options. Tired quite badly and lost time towards finish last 5/6 controls.
Not much zip today
Weather was near perfect for an autumn day- colours in the trees now splendid

Tuesday Nov 1, 2016 #

off road (headlight) 58:00 [3] 6.0 mi (9:40 / mi)

Run from Inn on the Green round Filton golf course. Because of football traffic I was not able to warm up -so started slowly. Hanging off the back for most of the run but feeling better as we progressed.
Good training
