Orienteering race 46:57 [4] *** 2.4 km (19:34 / km)
spiked:16/17c shoes: INOV8 TrailRoc 235

Urban sprint in Columbus, IN. I was doing really well until 15 when I had an overwhelming need to use the bathroom. This broke my concentration on this long leg, and I momentarily forgot where I was. After trying, and failing, to figure out from the map, I saw the start to the west and knew where I was. It took me almost 16 minutes to do this leg. Otherwise, a really fun sprint.

Orienteering race 29:49 [4] *** 2.2 km (13:33 / km)
spiked:14/14c shoes: INOV8 Bare Grips

Sprint at Mill Race in Columbus, IN. Much better than the earlier race. I didn't lose time on any of my splits, and did a fair amount of slogging on the grass. Since I was in O shoes, I didn't want to run on concrete. Some of the footing was bad because of flood debris, and a few controls were in the brush, but I think my route choices were ok. After the bad go round in the first sprint, I left Columbus much happier.

Orienteering race 2:06:49 [4] *** 3.7 km (34:16 / km) +205m 26:50 / km
spiked:8/9c shoes: INOV8 Bare Grips

A very steep up and down at Yellowwood Forest. No trouble finding one, but taking the trail would have probably been a better route choice. Good through 4, then a real messup, a 40 minute mistake going to five. Somehow I got confused about which stream I had crossed, went back to relocate, and realized I was on the east side of a north-south stream, when I should have been on the west side. I found a stream junction, went north, but it showed as white and light green on the map, but was almost impassable. So after a little bit north, I went back and went south, but that didn't look right, so I went back to my previous attackpoint, fought through the down trees, and went north to the control. No problems after that, except for a very long uphill slog to 6, then 7. My navigation was good, but I did have to stop and breath a little. The good part was I had brought enough gels and endurance to still have the energy to run in to the finish. Yeah for 9Round and Jared.

Orienteering race 2:10:00 [4] *** 3.5 km (37:09 / km) +50m 34:40 / km
spiked:5/12c shoes: INOV8 Bare Grips

Middle distance at Eagle Creek Park-East. Messed up on 1, and relocated back to start. The next four legs were good. I went down to the trail crossing the creek to go to 5, and it was a treacherous crossing on concrete culverts and slabs. Six, seven, eight and nine were all in depressions, in an area of depressions, and basically flat. I looked and found lots of other people's controls, and finally found 8. Then I went to six, and tried to go to seven. Couldn't find it, and went back to eight. I thought maybe my compass work was really bad, but I beelined right to seven, then hit eight. Again, I tried to find 9, couldn't, and decided I would probably be overtime if I kept looking, so I headed in and picked up the last control on the way. Bummer.

Steady. My shoulders were sore from yesterday, and several stations used weights.

Workout 1:00:00 [3]

Workout with my trainer. Used a lot of heavy weights today, especially on the upper body stuff. I will be sore tomorrow. I did really well on the agility drills.

The other good thing today was that I had to spend most of the morning at the doctor's office getting bloodwork, x-ray, EKG, etc., and I was five pounds lighter than my last visit in January. Yeah!

9Round 32:00 [5]
ahr:122 max:148 shoes: Skechers GoFit

We took Elray out to play the recall game at the old tennis courts, then dropped my car at 9Round and went to vote. Bob dropped me back at 9Round, and it was a one hundred day, so really tough. But I managed to do all the stations, with my heart rate going to 106% of my max. Good practice for climbing hills on Saturday. My legs feel like jelly now, however, from 100 right round kicks at four and 100 left round kicks at six, followed by 100 shin kicks at seven, then 100 flutter kicks at nine. Whew! And this doesn't count the Burpees, pushups, squats, and punches.

9Round 32:00 [4]
ahr:112 max:134 shoes: Skechers GoFit

This week's CHOW is 4 hits to the bag, and an up-down. I managed 38. The last round was tough. Two different moves on the large ball, so lots of balance was required, along with working the core.
