Orienteering race 1:20:48 [4] 3.44 mi (23:29 / mi) +170m 20:22 / mi

First physical orienteering race in over 2 yrs. Helped with starts at the A meet at FCN and then toddled out onto Orange. Glad I did not do anything more strenuous as I seriously need to get back into O shape. Overall, decent navigation and really only bobbled 7 and 9 and took an indirect way to 8.

Clambering through rock fields is not easily prepped for in my usual local walks. Good to feel some serious fatigue and I need a walk to get loose again!

Orienteering race 1:06:47 [4] 4.02 mi (16:37 / mi) +90m 15:32 / mi

Orienteering an advanced course for the first time in 2 yrs. Went with my older son Tom, who lives nearby and did yellow (he does it for fun).

Overall happy with my very rusty nav, though not as in shape as I was in early 2020 - losing my gym did not turn me into a gastropod, but I could not get the degree of cardio I had become accustomed to.

Only bobble was on #9, when I had to double back back as I was on the wrong side of a little creek. Thanks to the club, event organizer and course setter.

Be back in 2 weeks to volunteer at Big Woods. (then walk orange to continue easing back in).

My ramblings:

Tom had fun, and told me of how he spooked a group of deer, one of which ran into a tree. Got up all "meant to do that" and trotted off.
