Hiking hills 2:07:29 [2] 6.69 mi (19:03 / mi) +237m 17:10 / mi

Hiking the Topton watershed trails/paths as part of a future letterboxing project. Some really nice woods that would be O worthy, but much of it is thick light to dark green....

Orienteering race 1:47:33 [3] 5.04 mi (21:20 / mi) +215m 18:51 / mi

Had a fun day orienteering, except for control #4, which took me like 40 minutes and about 4 tries to approach it from assorted angles. The rest of the course went pretty much usual for me (which is better with some controls dead on and some controls needing to relocate - I was not disciplined in staying on contact with the map). Was not particularly feeling up to jogging, so I did take it easy, 'cept mumbling to myself about #4.

For a good laugh, check my routegadget or this:

Still, beats sitting around at home any time.

Orienteering race 2:18:45 [2] 3.6 mi (38:32 / mi) +170m 33:37 / mi

Orienteering the brown course with a letterboxing buddy. We went as team Sheebug, a portmanteau of our trail names - Sheeba (Suzanne) and LightninBug (moi).

Sheeb wanted to try an advanced course, having done orange and yellows in the past, and it was great fun. We each got a map and discussed our routes going from control to control.

Showed some of my "don't mess up" techniques and showed her what to look out for in terms of off trail landmarks and contours.

Got poked in the eye at the eevil control #8, but it was only a lid wound. Felt bad hearing about Len's actually getting it worse.

90 meters elevation was a touch off (counted 150 in contour reads and 170 by gps), but I relished the workout. We basically sauntered the whole event and ran into Julie's mom and Annie's dad. Sheeb is hopefully not aching today.
