WCOC Long. I made a mistake on the second control, then got tilted by the long slog up to 3, on the way to which I also took a hard fall. That combination plus the wet weather, my legs feeling heavy, and the slow, junky terrain put me in a negative mindset pretty early on and I never really got into the course. Need to work on staying positive in such situations. Also just not making early mistakes.

WCOC Middle. Blew 1:30 on 3 and almost a minute on 14. The former was a really inexcusable mistake where I came out to a linear veg boundary and thought I was right of the control when I was actually left of it, while the latter was a directional mistake on a short leg; I glimpsed Will C. ahead of me there, likely heading to 15, which probably contributed to me drifting from the line.

Still, other than that this was a really good run. I felt strong and positive again, and more or less spiked everything in the intricate areas with lots of depressions (other than 14). I also tried to push as hard as I could in the junky open areas with good visibility, thinking that that kind of terrain plays to my strengths. I was happy to snag one podium spot for the weekend, though at the same time I was miles behind Damian and Robbie and never could have done 30min for this course.

WCOC Sprint. This was a very enjoyable forested spriddle in a generally flat area, which meant a lot of compass. I was probably a bit too conservative (i.e. wary of vague compass legs with few features along the way), which cost me time on some legs, but also prevented a potential implosion. I felt good but had some bobbles, and most disappointingly blew a full minute on the last control of any navigational difficulty, which was irksome as I would have had a solid race and was dropped from third to fifth.
