FIRST TIME ORIENTEERING!

Waterloo Street-O.

I had a huge advantage living around 800m from the start, and could pretty much visualise where each control was by looking at the map, but still learnt a lot about looking at the map, knowing what i needed to memorise, having a plan etc. had to stop at each control to write answers so not as advantageous having a second target in mind.
My plan after a couple of controls was to go for high scoring controls further away so i could take advantage of my running more than my orienteering skills, which probably didn't pay off.
Got a bit jibbed on the score, losing 30 points because i thought i had to find a number on a fire hydrant which was broken (instead of a sign) and 20 points on a No-smoking sign, which was opposite a no-somethingelse sign. Lesson learnt.

I feel like i didn't really have to use as many orienteering skills rather than general googlemap reading skills given that the streets are really gridlike and i pretty much knew where i was at all times.

Lots of fun. will do again!

Final score 390/890
Final place 390/390 (probably)

Place 29/109 would have been 13/109 if i had known what to look for for the hydrant code and that the dot specified the other side of the road. Not bad, can't wait til the next one

Another lesson with EricNorris. Had more time. And a more suitable course for learning. Got through about 15 controls, mostly running. Good fun!

From orienteering Ben took us to a Nice! Park with semi-closed roads and a cool stream/waterfall. On the way back I felt the beast and carried on alone to limp up a HC version of the puerto navacerrada climb. Reminded me that no matter how shite you feel, if you keep tapping away, you'll get there.

Big day featuring some Nice! Climbs. Gorgeous scenery. Felt pretty good bike-wise, especially after the big day yesterday. Amazing route be Ben.
Pretty confident that if I have high fitness in may I'll be able to get bikefit in a month for the etape.

This was frikking epic. Ran with Ewen (the machine) up across a ridge above cercedilla. Knee-deep snow-holes at the top. Really suffered with the altitude above 1800m although to be fair I would have been struggling with the steepness anyway.
Beautiful at the top, fresh snow etc. Had to borrow a dudes iceclimbing axe to get down a wall, and promptly fell, completely expecting it to come down on my head.
2 PM

Cycling 59:35 intensity: (2:55 @0) + (4:06 @1) + (15:44 @2) + (26:37 @3) + (43 @4) + (9:30 @5) 16.23 km (16.3 kph) +567m

Surprisingly long climb up to orienteering. Very hard after this morning's effort. Linea overtook me 100 m from the top on a rented mountainbike. Gutted.
4 PM

Orienteering 52:10 intensity: (12:26 @0) + (16:28 @1) + (13:43 @2) + (9:33 @3) 4.11 km (12:42 / km) +164m 10:35 / km

EricNorris was kind enough to give me an orienteering lesson. Not too much solid running, but a lot of fun.
5 PM

Cycling 50:07 intensity: (11:34 @0) + (13:45 @1) + (15:52 @2) + (5:03 @3) + (10 @4) + (3:43 @5) 16.63 km (19.9 kph) +244m

Pulled by ben. Surprisingly long slow slog back home. Shattered by the end
