CNYO Regaine at Letchworth State Park. Traveled with Glen. Pretty cool concept of a race in that this was 3 legs, each with a work and rest period. Due to the dangerous cliffs in the park, they ended up instating a dark zone from 10p-5a. This guy isn't complaining about extra sleep these days :) It was staged in a small field owned by the Rod & Gun Club where we could camp and hang on our breaks. I decided my format would be 6hr run, 2hr rest, 4hr run, rest overnight, 5hr run. Glen did the same but with a completely different route. I chose to do the longest distance section first since this was the longest leg and would involve a lot of road running. I attacked 40 on the way out but the "terrace" clue was tricky since there were a lot of flat parts here, and I went down to the road and continued on my course. Found 40 on the way home from the bottom with no problem. Crossed the footbridge and into the main park and was immediately struck by the beauty of this place. Massive gorge with tons of great views and cool features within the park. I guess Letchworth was voted a best state park in the country last year. #worthit. Definitely the best leg of the race. I felt really connected with the map, which was a gorgeous 1:20k basically full LIDAR map. I tried to contour from 41 to 47 and didn't like it, so I picked it up on the way back. I hadn't gone far enough to get to 47. Turned around at 13. After a small loop there, it was a long slog back to the footbridge crossing, with 3 CPs along the way to TA.
