Back for breakfast and a day of non-rest!

Cycling 7:00 [3] 1.4 mi (5:00 / mi)
shoes: Diadora

Home -> Pool
Day holiday from work, but still keen to maintain swimming routine, hence early morning cycle ride to pool. Feeld particularly important in view of ankle injury preventing any weight on feet type training.

Swimming 41:00 [3] 2.0 km (20:30 / km)

Disappointed not to get close to the evens pace (1 length = 1 minute). Not sure why, as felt that the energy was there. Probably some sloppy technique, though possibly also because time was not so much of an issue today - no rush to get to work ASAP after the swim.

Note
(injured)

Originally intended to run Hindhead event today, but practically speaking not fit enough to take on the physical rigour of a race in that terrain. Not entering was the right decision.

Still considering myself as injured. Used Eartham SOG as a fitness recovery test (i.e. didn't push beyond the first signs of discomfort). Looking good for racing at Southern Night Champs next Saturday.

Orienteering (SOG) 47:11 [4] **** 6.0 km (7:52 / km) +170m 6:53 / km
spiked:12/17c (injured) shoes: VJ Falcon

Eartham SOG -Blue course.
First test following ankle injury previous Saturday.
Very wet under foot and heavy rain (esp later on course). Quite rushed to get changed and to the start early enough to allow the split start arrangement to work. Seemed to settle fairly quickly into course. A bit lucky on first control (veg changes didn't relate to map). Plenty of bramble throughout, but lower than it might've been (due to sustained heavy autumnal rain over last months?). No pain from ankle for about 3/4 of course. Started cautiously, but accelerated rate after first control - probably ran faster than level of fitness allowed for first 4 controls. Control 5 was wrongly placed (On an earthwall 100m S of correct earthbank) and missed on first pass - lost a minute or two. Wrong placing confirmed on leg to control 6 - came out to one side of expected position on large path. Eased off pace after No 13 once ankle started to ache (shame as there was potentially fast running available). Made 20-30s mistake on 16-17 by trying to go too straight (confused by paths).
General Impressions: Pleased that ankle hadn't caused too much trouble; Course was ok, but rather straight forward and didn't need too much analysis on the run; Disappointed by (another!) wrongly placed control - I guess it's just unlucky that we've had two such situations in close succession - one of the discriminators between level C and level D events (where there isn't the on the ground checking by an appointed controller); Surprised by result (second by 9s) in view of injury status, though the big hitters (NC, AV, KL) were not present. Congrats to Thraws on a good run and consequent good result!

Orienteering (SOG Yellow) 1:27:36 [1] 1.8 km (48:40 / km) +40m 43:48 / km
shoes: VJ Falcon

Yellow Course - longest time yet (nearly an hour and a half)?
A bit too far for B 1.8km after 200m to start and similar back from finish.
Lots of mud and puddles. Brambles on narrow paths early on quite troublesome with pushchair (containing E).
B fairly well motivated with his trek round the course until 2/3 way round. Eventually managed to do the lot under his own steam, so I was quite pleased (especially given the rain and energy sapping mud). E did most of the dibbing (whilst awake!) from the pushchair. Lost dibber on final control and had to go back to look for it. Luckily A spotted it before we had to give up. Ankle didn't get aggravated too much by the extra exercise - it was more a mental strain trying to coax B along when he faultered!.
Had to study map quite closely on leg 1-2 (TD2!) when nearly caught out by a path junction. B slept well on way home so must've had a good bit of exercise!

Note

Right ankle feeling much less sore now - starting to feel that I shouldn't be considering it as injured anymore. Not intending to do any heavy (weight on my feet) exercise today however, and tomorrow at Eartham will be the real test.

Note
(injured)

Ankle feels quite a bit better this morning, however still not playing badminton this evening. Probably write off this week as far as activities on my feet is concerned (e.g. was considering Wednesday Hawley O - time of year to use up holiday!, but not very likely now). Review state of ankle on Sat morning to decide whether to do Nore Hill SOG.
