snow shoveling 17:32 [2]

3 inches or so. Used the snow thrower on our property. This time was spent on the clients.

SW loop in the city. Lovely day. Snow expected later. Sidewalks were the only choice on busy streets.

Don't usually get to run in this part of the park at this time of year because of ice and snow. That being said, parts were a little muddy.

Light rain was not much of a problem. 2 loops of the ring road and a short loop in the neighborhood. 40 F. Where did winter go?

Had to cut it a little short in order to go to a luncheon my wife was organizing. Weather was mild, only +3 C. Little wind. Tights worked well on legs. Had to give directions to out-of-towners in the cemetery. It always pleases me to be able to give directions in any circumstance. Traction was mostly good. The cemetery doesn't use salt on the roads so you are always taking a chance in the days after a storm.

Yesterday an old friend from car rally days stopped by for a brief visit on his way to the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. He was in Sweden last summer for some kind of Saab anniversary in Trollhatten. I think it may have been his first trip abroad.

Wasn't in the mood. Dressed OK. Maybe it was because it was after nap and after dark and windy. Maybe not. Did have time afterwards to shovel a little and stretch before dinner. Footing fair after lake effect snow all day.

snow shoveling 20:00 [3]

Time estimated because I forgot my watch. Went after breakfast with B. Did the three "clients" and our walk and driveway. Only about an inch of fluffy stuff. Bought another shovel today. A "pusher" style. Can't wait to see how it works ;-).

running long 45:01 [3] 4.5 mi (10:00 / mi) +36m 9:46 / mi
weight:160lbs shoes: Asics GT2000 6

Another cold day. 2 F to 4 F wind chill. Still experimenting with the bottom clothing. Tops is already not bad. Traction on the ring road was good (not great). Felt slower than the split times indicate.

Note
(rest day)

Spent the day at the Toronto Boat Show. Apparently motor boating is much more popular than sail boating. It's kind of exhausting spending all that time looking at things you could never afford. Wouldn't do this every year but once in awhile is OK. I should have been more prepared. A friend bought a winch handle for $25. And the shoes were really cheap but I couldn't remember if I needed a pair. The local marina organized a bus trip up which was really nice.

7 AM

snow shoveling 30:00 [3]

Pretty significant storm overnight. Maybe 8". Time reflects doing the two "clients" walks. Also used the snow thrower to clear our driveway and front walk and the adjacent neighbors front walks.
5 PM

running 30:49 [3] 2.91 mi (10:35 / mi) +23m 10:20 / mi
weight:160lbs shoes: Asics GT2000 6

So this turned out to be a test of clothing. It was dark and the wind chill (or "feels like" as they are calling it now) was 2 F. Pretty cold. I wore my new tights and discovered that at this temp I need another layer. Maybe the old "trousers". Tops was fine. New shoes were fine.

Thursday Jan 11, 2018 #

Note

Bought a new pair of shoes Asics GT2000 6 and a pair of running tights..

running long 1:01:02 [3] 5.84 mi (10:27 / mi) +53m 10:10 / mi
weight:160lbs shoes: Asics 2000-4

A perfectly lovely day for a run. Sunny. Light wind from the south. Roads in cemetery were hardpacked. They looked slippery in spots but the spots could be easily avoided. Temps went from 31 F at the beginning to 39 F at the end. It's a January heat wave! Had to partially unzip my jacket.

Monday Jan 8, 2018 #

running long (Outdoors!) 51:56 [3] 5.2 mi (9:59 / mi)
shoes: Asics 2000-4

31 F so couldn't find any excuse to run indoors. Dark out. Ran around the Ring Road and a little in the 'hood. Surface quite variable but manageable. Distance estimated as gps watch out of juice.
1 PM

snow shoveling 18:00 [3]

Heavy wet stuff. Thankfully not much accumulation.

Saturday Jan 6, 2018 #

snow shoveling 17:00 [3]

Minor overnight accumulation and driveway leftover from the day before.

snow shoveling 34:00 [3]

running long (Treadmill) 47:09 [3] 4.7 mi (10:02 / mi)

Still "American Vandal" on Netflix.

Wednesday Jan 3, 2018 #

snow shoveling 32:00 [3]
weight:160lbs

Lots of drifting due to the high winds late yesterday so the snow was dry but packed. It was like shoveling sand. Many bare spots though.
11 AM

running (Treadmill) 45:01 [3] 4.49 mi (10:02 / mi)
shoes: Asics 2000-4

Still cold outside and getting colder in the next few days. Finished episode 4 of "American Vandal."

Tuesday Jan 2, 2018 #

snow shoveling 20:00 [3]

Light and fluffy stuff.

Monday Jan 1, 2018 #

running long (Treadmill) 40:07 [3] 4.0 mi (10:02 / mi)
shoes: Asics 2000-4

It seemed like the park road was hard packed - might have been slippery in spots - so opted for the treadmill. Could have run outside in 13 F and sunshine. Watching "American Vandal."
