Gribskov Forest. Finally a forest race I was happy with. Only a few bobbles. Finished 36/81 in the “C” final. Anytime I’m in the top half of the field in Europe, I’m happy.

Orienteering race (Middle Final 3.5 km) 52:58 [5] *** 4.5 km (11:47 / km) +44m 11:14 / km

Somewhat disappointing race. Tired so couldn’t run fast but it was nav problems that did me in. Biggest error was another 7 minute mess-up on control 8. I thought I had a good attack point but I guess I didn’t. Finished 79/84. Not sure if I will be in B or C long final on Friday. I’ll skip long model tomorrow to do some sightseeing in CPH.

Orienteering race (Forest Qual) 1:02:07 [5] 3.87 mi (16:03 / mi) +96m 14:54 / mi
shoes: VJ Falcon

Forest qualification race which determines the group you will run in the middle final and long final. A good race for me except control 9 where I took an extra 7 minutes. Was worried about the distance but the running in the woods was very fast. Finished 28/66 which squeaked me into B final for middle final tomorrow. Lovely woods.

Orienteering 1:08:20 [3] 2.81 km (24:19 / km)
shoes: VJ Falcon

Model for the forest qualification held at Tisvilde Hegn. Bumped into Carl Henry Andersson and spent some time talking about the sprint the day before. Otherwise took my time and tried to figure out the mapper’s style.

shoes: Asics 2000-4

Sprint B final at WMOC2018. A fast race. Not technical. Not much route choice. Finished 6/80. Splits show I started slow and then kept moving up.

Orienteering race (Sprint Qual. 2.25 km) 18:24 [5] 1.45 mi (12:41 / mi)
shoes: Asics 2000-4

Enjoyed this sprint qualifying race in a business park. But bummed out later on when I found out I finished in 17th place in my heat and they took the first 16 for the A final. I was only 4 seconds behind the guy in front of me! I was ahead of him at the 3rd last control by 3 seconds. He caught up to me at the 2nd last control and we were also tied at the last control. Then he ran 4 seconds faster than me in the chute.

Note

Indoor orienteering at a fancy and architecturally interesting high school in Nærum near Farum (the event center for WMOC). Very tricky and great fun but as Christina mentions in her log, obviously a lot of work to organize.

After lunch ran around the sprint model for about 14 minutes.

bike 1:12:00 [3] 22.0 km (3:16 / km)

Rode the bike to and from the high school for the indoor orienteering. Listened to the voice on Google maps for navigation. (Barbara and I call the voice “Miss Bossy Pants”.) Was flawless on all the bike paths. Deducted the time I spent taking photos.
