Trail running warm up/down 15:00 [2] 1.0 mi (15:00 / mi)
shoes: Icebug

Orienteering race 39:39 [4] 5.5 km (7:13 / km) +100m 6:37 / km
shoes: Icebug

NE Challenge in the Fells. Mass start. Fun cruising. Apparently I missed # 12, although I partially navigated to it, but then probably (really not sure) started thinking about 13 and selected the route to it. So likely missed it by less than 30 meters. The Fells map printing is very dark, and I have a difficult time seeing the course on it. Great fun nevertheless. Legs felt good all the way to the end. My O-ing is a bit rusty, understandably given the recent lack of participation on my part.
11 AM

Orienteering 38:47 [4] 4.0 mi (9:42 / mi) +100m 9:00 / mi
shoes: Icebug

Then, went out on the trail/O course 15 minutes later. Just tried to enjoy myself. Concentrated more on keeping a fast-ish pace going, than on the orienteering part. Thus I missed the left turn between 4 and 5 and drifted far too north. Eventually turned around and navigated off trail to 5, adding about 5 minutes to my time. Perfect day to let loose in the woods!

cutting splitting stacking and yardwork 1:00:00 [1]

Log it as 1 hour. Spent all day with 2 energetic rowing women cleaning our woodlot of its piles, hauling, cutting to length and splitting (with electric implements..), and stacking. Gave the heavy lifting to the girls to do b/c of my weak lower back, but still got a good upper body workout somehow.

Trail running 25:00 [2] 2.8 mi (8:56 / mi)
shoes: New Balance MT 101 sz 9

Run to work, usual route. pressed for time.
5 PM

Cycling - Bianci Mt Bike 25:00 [1] 4.2 mi (5:57 / mi) +30m 5:49 / mi

Biking home via fish pickup place. Saw several Tr canvassers in the faculty neighborhood. Kind of felt sorry for them in this dems stronghold neighborhood.

Road Running 20:00 [2] 2.5 mi (8:00 / mi)
shoes: New Balance MT 101 sz 9

Running to work. Just was a tad too late, so opted for the road to save 7 minutes. Light drizzle, 45 degrees. Rather pleasant.
5 PM

Trail running 39:00 [2] 3.6 mi (10:50 / mi) +60m 10:18 / mi
shoes: New Balance MT 101 sz 9

Running home with a couple of hill workouts and an extra loop around Spruce Hole.
8 PM

Dancing 1:00:00 [1]
shoes: New Balance MT 101

Monthly Dover Contra Dance. The band was a bit lame duck, probably because of busy work (except of course Sarah H, who is always upbeat), but no problem: lots of energy among the dancers, including a few newcomers and young folks. Also overabundance of guys, so several danced the women's part repeatedly, which was quite amusing. Missed o-maps and his s.o.

Road Running 20:00 [2] 2.5 mi (8:00 / mi)
shoes: New Balance Road

Run to work. Short on time so opted for road, and road shoes. Interesting how I have gotten used to the more minimal shoes (NB-Mt); I felt clumsy with these fully padded and heavy road shoes. So I was extra careful to watch my "form" so as not to aggravate knees, Achilles, shins, etc. I guess I will designate my several pairs of heavy clunkers for yard work...
5 PM

Trail running 30:00 [2] 2.8 mi (10:43 / mi) +40m 10:16 / mi
shoes: New Balance Road

Run home. Because of shoes, decided to do my ski-route: Dam to Arsenault to West Foss Farm, then Shelter and by Adam's house to Troy field /house then trail home. Just getting dark again. My daily run has become a near exact carbon-copy repetitive routine due to work constraints. With a little discipline, I could probably up my mileage from 6 to 9 per day, with great benefits - but perhaps better to save that for a new year's resolution.

Trail running 28:00 [3] 2.8 mi (10:00 / mi)
shoes: New Balance MT 101 sz 9

Run to work. No time for detours b/c meeting with advisees. But then on campus watched a hawk tearing a chipmunk apart and pecking away at it, all in full sight on a tree branch near the ground. Dozens of students were walking by and taking pictures while the hawk just occasionally looked around to confirm that there was no danger. Watched for about 3 minutes.
5 PM

Trail running 44:00 [3] 4.0 mi (11:00 / mi) +120m 10:04 / mi
shoes: New Balance MT 101 sz 9

Running home with 5 hill sprints added: 3 x 200 (20 climb) in CW, 2 x 200 at Spruce Hole. The cold weather invites this type of training - need to break into a sweat when you are training, that's part of the equation.

Cycling - Bianci Mt Bike 14:00 [2] 2.7 mi (5:11 / mi)

Bike to work via OR dam.
6 PM

Trail running 28:00 [3] 3.0 mi (9:20 / mi)
shoes: Newton MV3

Run home with the usual: CW hill sprint, and Spruce Hall hill sprint. Otherwise straight home, b/c I was hungry and I just barely made it before dark.
