Orienteering race 44:11 [4] 5.58 km (7:55 / km) +205m 6:41 / km
ahr:144 max:162 shoes: Inov8 X-talon 212 Black

Irish Long Distance Champs - Crohane Lake - M55
Very enjoyable course, nice and tricky, but rather too short.
Took it fairly steadily, trying to be efficient rather than fast through the terrain, partly because I was a bit distracted by Colm having tested positive for Covid just before we drove to the event and wasn't sure I should push too hard. Probably a good idea tactically as I was very smooth for the first few controls. Started to run into trouble from 6 onwards as the rain got a bit heavier and the glasses started steaming up. The last 2 controls in the open were just about OK but once I got into the forest I couldn't read the map and lost time both through stopping and mistakes.
Lost contact 5-6, maybe 30s loss through going slow and taking time to relocate. 30s at 10 where I overshot to the left, but not exactly a disaster. Then 1.5mins at 11 where I couldn't read the map and failed to get it right after I'd crossed the stream.
The least tired I remember feeling after running a "long" distance.

Not too surprised to still win as it wasn't easy and I got a lot right ...

ahr:149 max:161 shoes: Innov-8 Oroc 290 (red)

Irish Middle Distance Champs - Cappanalea - M55
Beautiful location and good weather. Orienteering still fairly physical despite recent dry weather. Fairly straightforward technically.
Solid run. No significant time losses though lost a few seconds actually getting to the controls at 2 and 7. Happy enough with the running though not as good on this stuff as I used to be!

ahr:149 max:161 shoes: Inov8 X-talon 212 Black

Irish Sprint Champs - Muckross - M55
Fun course in a mixture of Parkland, woods and garden.
Started off almost straight into a complicated rock garden area. Struggled to get into it and lost a bit 2-3-4 (20s ?). Thereafter fairly clean.
Running reasonably and able to push harder towards the end.

Orienteering race 47:10 [3] 7.27 km (6:29 / km) +288m 5:25 / km
ahr:144 max:158 shoes: Inov8 X-talon 212 Black

SYO Evening Event - Wincobank - Blue - 5.9Km
Good course, but a while since I've run in terrain like this so was a bit rusty. Also struggled a bit wit the main tracks being very light brown. Tried not to put too much effort in this close to the Irish Champs, but not completely successful. Assorted misses, the worst probably about 1 min at 8. thought I'd followed the compass but may have got put off by brambles.

Also collecting controls afterwards.

Running 47:45 [3] 9.46 km (5:03 / km) +204m 4:33 / km
ahr:138 max:157 shoes: Nike Pegasus 37

Office - Ranmoor - edge of town - Clough - HB
Some tiredness in the legs, but generally keeping the pace relatively gentle so not a problem. Right hip a bit sore for the last 10 minutes.
