Orienteering race 1:17:37 [4] 12.93 km (6:00 / km)
shoes: VJ Falcon

WOC OY - QE Park - 9.6Km (straight line - minimum distance probably quite a bit further)
Have managed to avoid QEP for quite a while but couldn't get out of it this time. The usual festival of fence crossings, which probably cost me somewhere between 5 & 10 minutes compared with some others. The mistakes shown on Winsplits are just from trying to get across fences without touching the electric wires! (though lost a few extra seconds at 16 due to being so far off line by the time I got over the fence).
Surprised myself by actually enjoying the event, probably because I was expecting the worst so wasn't taking it seriously and set off at a pretty gentle pace. Got into it a bit more in the second half and sped up a bit. Calf was OK for a long while but started to get sore coming up to the hour mark.

Note

Golf - Terrace course with Oli. 48. Awful start but played quite well after that.

Cycling 38:32 [3]

Short ride to loosen up only a couple of hours after getting off the plane. Went to the end of Russells Rd, Johnsons Rd and Avro Road. Keeping it relatively gentle.

Seem to have got through the flight OK - possibly partly because I made much more of an effort to stay hydrated than usual.

Running 43:32 [3] 7.0 km (6:13 / km)
shoes: Nike Pegasus 33 Blue

From the office to Forge Dam and back, in opposite direction to usual (i.e. up through the P&P). Last Sheffield run for a few months.
In less pain beforehand than yesterday, but calf started hurting a bit as soon as I started going properly uphill. Thereafter sore on all the hills, but only moderately painful the rest of the time - easy enough to run through and still a lot better than a couple of weeks ago.
Feeling good apart from that.

Orienteering race 30:05 [3] 5.0 km (6:01 / km)
shoes: VJ Falcon

British Relays - Middleton Park - M50 - 4.7Km 120m
2nd leg with Martin on Leg 1 and Tim on leg 3
Leg locked up badly again in the morning and SI area really quite sore, so was not too optimistic. But again it gradually improved so that I was able to run by the time I needed to. Not exactly running fluently though, and there was a bit of pain most of the time I was running.

Really fun area for a relay, much like Ecclesall Woods, but it took me quite a while to get into it. Small hesitations all the way up to number 5 where I lost 30 seconds by taking a riskier route. After that pulled it together a bit and stopped losing time. Never running with anyone, but saw Jules B. and Ifor about half way round, which also helped me increase the speed. Would have liked to be able to race properly, but did a good enough job to set Tim up for the win.
