Orienteering race 15:39 [3] 3.0 km (5:13 / km)
ahr:150 max:163 shoes: Nike Air Pegasus 30 Blue

WMOC Sprint Qualifier - Epsom Campus - 3.0Km

Went to the start not knowing if I was going to be able to run. Long warm up, lots of stretching and then some jogging and it seemed like it might hold together so feeling very relieved when I started. Still took it very gently at the start. Sped up a bit but never got to racing speed. Hamstring got quite sore, particularly on the inside, but was able to cope with it. One sharp burst of pain when I had to react quickly to avoid someone.

As a result of the lack of speed, held it together pretty well technically. Only real mistake was about 10 seconds at 6 where I ran past the tree and looked at some others. Picked the right routes as well. Still very surprised by the result.

Note

Walked round the sprint course in Rotorua. Tried jogging a few steps a few times, and there is substantial pain, but walking OK. Hamstring seems a bit clicky, which is something new. Other injuries not a problem - hip in particular seems a lot better.

Orienteering race 24:42 [3] 3.8 km (6:30 / km)
ahr:145 max:159 shoes: VJ Falcon

Middle Earth WMG warm up.

Did 3.32Km before the hamstring failed. Caught Greg Barbour up 8-9 and was running with him approaching 11 when there was a sudden sharp pain in my left hamstring, almost like a cramp. Walked on to the control, but obviously in too much pain to continue so just walked back to the finish. Disappointing. Doesn’t feel too bad a few hours later, but really not sure how much damage has been done.

Didn't push the orienteering at all. Taking it very carefully on any rough bits, and resisted the temptation to get into a race with Greg, so very surprised to get the injury on a bit of very easy running. Was not concentrating hugely on the navigation - small misses on 4,5,9,10 probably adding up to about 1:30.

Note

Hip sore overnight and this morning so not difficult sticking to my decision not to run the middle distance.
