Orienteering race 30:47 [4] 5.0 km (6:09 / km)
shoes: Innov8

British Middle Distance Champs - Cannock Chase 4.2Km 220m

Proved that it was a wise decision to miss yesterday's race. The hamstring has continued to improve. Still tight, particularly when stretching at all, but gave it a good gentle warm up before the race, and started more conservatively than normal. Fortunately had heard that James was struggling part way round the course so felt I didn't have to run really hard but could concentrate on going smoothly and protecting the hamstring. Mostly successful doing that though still some mistakes. About 15sec at 4 where I wasn't careul enough. Then a bad mistake at 17 (45 sec) where I was on line, but lost confidence just before the control. Silly miss at 27, thanks to going to the wrong control when I should have known better (15 sec). Bits and pieces lost in a few other places, but largely the result of playing safe.

Didn't feel like I was running at top speed at any stage, but still felt fairly tired over the last 3 legs. Didn't push too hard at the end because I was fairly confident having overtaken JonX and Parkino (twice!) out on the course and seen how many problems people were having. Very happy with the result given the pain I'd been in, and managed not to aggravate it at all.

Sitting in the office watching the rain instead of running the British Sprints. Hamstring has improved a bit over the past 2 days, but don't think it's up to racing yet, particularly not a 2 stage race. So, unusually, a sensible decision made to try to run tomorrow instead of today.

That makes it 9 national championship races entered so far this year, and none completed :-(

Running 30:25 [2] 6.0 km (5:04 / km)
shoes: Nike Pegasus 30

ACW loop of Ecclesall Woods from the quiet road.

Hamstring feeling fairly sore all day and was nervous about running. Sore all the way, but didn't get worse and felt better later in the evening. Probably shouldn't run the Sprint on Saturday, but we'll see. Wonderful run, and legs feeling great apart from the hamstring.

Orienteering 55:51 [3] 9.0 km (6:12 / km)
shoes: Innov8

Dark Peak race on Burbage. Pretty much an orienteering event using the O-Map (but without the copiuos bracken shown). Controls could be taken in any order, but there were only 2 realistic orders. I was first back one way round, but Nails was 4 mins faster the other way.

Kept making mistakes - only spiked 2 out of 8 controls, and seemed to be continually finding the controls for everyone else. Hamstring was hurting a bit right from the start so took it fairly steadily, but foolishly got involved in a race towards the end, which seemed to make it quite a lot worse. Sore afterwards - not sure about the weekend.

Running 1:00:36 [3] 12.0 km (5:03 / km)
shoes: Nike Pegasus 30

From Work - Tom Lane (top half) - Crags - edge of town - Clough.

Hamstring sore beforehand, but did a reasonable warm up. Was sore throughout, and protected it somewhat, but it didn't seem to get worse. Legs fairly tired as expected - found the hills hard work - but overall not too bad.
