Running 1:03:02 [3] 13.0 km (4:51 / km)
shoes: Saucony

From Riverdale Rd - Ecclesall Woods (slightly longer route) - Limb Valley - up the steep hill and back to the Clough via Whiteley Woods.

Had intended to go up to Ringinglow, but guts really bad. The last few minutes was a combination of running really hard for a kilometer then almost stopping to hold it all in. Not much fun, though the first half of the run was very enjoyable.

Right thigh a bit sore - no idea why. Knee a little sore and quite sore afterwards, possibly as a result of the stop start nature of the run.

Orienteering 27:36 [4] 5.0 km (5:31 / km)

British Middle Champs - Stanton Moor 4.0K 170m

Legs felt tired before starting. OK physically for the first few controls but fell to pieces when we got to the contouring legs (again). Really struggled on the long uphill section straight after that and then in the quarries. Started feeling better when the running got easier towards the end, but never really able to go as fast as I wanted. Again, probably a combination of jetlag, slight illness, and having done so little terrain running for the past 18 months.

Technically mostly OK. Lost 30 sec on 7-8, but everyone did it badly (should have just gone down to the track as I'd originally intended). Lost time 9-10, but difficult to quantify as it was caused by following the burnt areas. But definitely too far left and had to run back round the quarries.

Disappointed the course didn't spend more time in the detailed wooded quarries, as the large number of pure running legs gave James sufficient advantage.

Knee felt fine, but I'm still a bit slow downhill.

Orienteering 14:32 [3] 3.0 km (4:51 / km)
shoes: Saucony

British Sprint Champs - Loughborough University - Qualifying

Fairly simple course. Running at a very controlled speed, and hardly lost any time. Didn't feel like I had enough left in the tank as I should have done at that speed.

Orienteering 14:11 [4] 3.0 km (4:44 / km)
shoes: Saucony

British Sprint Champs - Loughborough University - Final.

Scrappy run. Started too hard and lost some time 1-2 which left me a bit panicky for a few legs. Never quite got into the right headspace. No big time losses, just bits and pieces here and there. Some poor routes.

Physically, felt like I was trying, but without much effect. Breathing not right. The cold didn't really eventuate but still seem to be suffering a bit.

Orienteering 21:33 [3] 4.0 km (5:23 / km)
shoes: Saucony

SYO Spring League - The Edge Campus. 3.1K

Feeling a bit better today so went to this. Took it fairly easy, while still trying to keep a tempo, but eased back on uphill sections as was obviously struggling.

A bit ragged technically - not getting routes under control far enough ahead and missing one or two better routes. Not helped by overprinting at times - numbers blocking out an impassable wall caused a problem at one point (24-25).

Knee was fine while running but a bit sore afterwards. Not feeling any more ill afterwards, but not feeling great either.

Running 32:25 [2] 7.0 km (4:38 / km)
shoes: Saucony

In Sheffield, from Riverdale Rd up the Clough, left up the hill at the dam and back via the usual route ending up running down through the Bingham Park pitch & putt.

Unfortunately started feeling dodgy during the afternoon - feeling a bit like I might be getting a cold. Went out anyway, but was obviously lacking in strength and ended up taking it very gently towards the end.

Knee had been a bit sore after the flight. It had improved, but not able to run freely down the hills.

Feeling really bad later in the evening. May not be running this weekend.
