It was a good day for orienteering: cold but not too cold. I forgot to bring one of my lighter jackets so I ended up wearing my parka. At times I had it completely unzipped. I started off wearing gloves, but eventually I took those off.

I got a little turned around looking for the first control but I managed to find it without wasting too much time. I took a little more time than I ideally should have finding the third control. I found the re-entrant in which it was located without any trouble. I thought the control was to my left when actually it was to my right and not within sight, so it took me a few minutes more to find it because I started by searching in the wrong direction.

I used the USMC permanent land nav course boxes to help me navigate. I found them particularly useful when it came to navigating from 4 to 5. I didn't find them quite as useful when it came to navigating from 7 to 8, but that is because I mistook one box for another and spent probably 10 minutes trying to get back on track.

All in all it was a good day. I think the red course was the right course for me on this day. I probably could have finished the blue, but I don't feel as though the red course wasn't challenging enough.
