Walking 20:50 [3] 1.41 km (14:47 / km)
shoes: Duluth Wild Boar

Weights 15:00 [3]

On the way out of Stanbery Park on Saturday, A women had 1/2 the exit lane blocked. She asked me if I had been Orienteering - YES. Did I enjoy it? YES
Would I come back again to do Orienteering - YES.

I thought about that a bit on the way home. The park presents an interesting challenge due to the climb and thick cover of bush honeysuckle in many places. I could not navigate like I usually do. So it would be a good training ground to try out new methods of navigation.

Orienteering race 2:10:00 [3] 5.0 km (26:00 / km)
shoes: New Balance Trail Run

Tried the Green Course at Stanbery. This reminded me of what has happened at OLOU with new meet directors. Course descriptions were vague, like re-entrant, fence NE side, the fence has 250 meters that fits that description on the map. So I aimed off, and worked my way through the first 3 relying on the circle on the map. The fourth control I did not see at the fence junction with the gulley (where the circle was on the map). The control description was re-entrant. I spent some time confirming I was at the right gulley from the house configuration. So I followed the gulley down until I saw the control at a gulley junction. Five was okay, then six was where the wheels came off. The control was on the western edge of the map. The control was on the top of a gulley on the map. Description was re-entrant. I hit the area I think, it matched up pretty well with the map. The other possibility was I was off the map with similar features. I decided to follow the gulley complex down to the creek. No luck, followed the creek, it had a funky bend, so I ended going the wrong way. After a few minutes realized I was heading N instead of E but I saw a road ahead with a couple buildings. Went to the road but it was still heading N, saw a couple joggers asked them where Stanbery Park was, they both said they had never heard of it. I looked around and saw a trail head off the road - deer hunting area. But the trail was heading S along a trail. I followed it for a while it finally turned E into the park. I packed it into the finish at that point.
