shoes: Inov-8 Mudclaw 265 Blue

LOC Middle Brown, Tarn hows. 4.1km / lots of climb allegedly

Reasonable start despite appalling wet weather. Mudbath - tracks all the way a hindrance - as quagmire.

Poor execution / decision on no 6 (long leg); very fast from there to no 11 where the contours were plain WRONG. - 30 secs.

Achilles started hurting up hill to 14, but then coming out, went over properly on LH ankle badly - agony - proper sprain - man down, yelping in pain. NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Got up, hobbled, managed to cobble together some sort of "running action" and determined to finish and have " a good run".

I did 36:53 but for some unfathomable reason, I decided to re-punch finish SI approx. 17 seconds after finished "to make sure it had registered". Never again. That overwrites the other finish dib. No change in position but I was 1 second behind Sarah Jones at the last control; her run in was 18 seconds so no chance there.

Very surprised how far down I was on Quentin, Charlie & Tim; I'm clearly shit at sprint & middle races. Yet I dislike long legs. OK. Wrong sport? Take up national 5km road races for over 50s?

Walk back in pain from finish to car in driving cold rain with ankle screaming & swelling was possibly the most unpleasant 15 minutes of the year.

Swollen ankle - RICE at bunkhouse - very very painful for 2 hours then eased enough to get to pub. Thankfully.
