Orienteering (Southern Champs ) 1:13:46 [3] 14.0 km (5:16 / km)

Course= 1st M20E 2nd course 4 (Dane is in a different league) 11.7km 260m (very similar to JK distance and height gain)

Had conflicting thought going into this because my good result last week suggested that going slow really pays off but at the same time I could have done way better last week if I had upped the pace for the easy controls. Also wasn't sure how my running ability would be after last night.

1/ Struggled with 1 even though it was on a path as I was trying to get my head round all the tiny path on 1:15 (lost 1:26 here alone) Luckily Matt Cox my 2min man must have had an awful 1st one as I could see him running to 2.
2-4/ All good and over took Matt to 4
5/ Pushed hard on the path with Matt also trying to run fast but overshot slightly but Matt who was behind saw it
6/ Interesting not sure if I did this well of not as lost 2min to Dane but I would give 45sec for his ability alone but my route choice wasn't too bad and I had one of the fastest splits, probably played it too safe with the paths
7-11/ Dane caught me and he pushed ahead I tried to push really hard to get level with him or ahead so I could show I was looking at my map but he was just so quick, I have never seen anything like it
12/ Probably best call I made as stopped trying to keep with Dane and took the path route to 12 which was definitely the right call as he beat me by only 22secs and that was probably running speed alone.
13/Pushed the path hard and got the fastest split!
14-16/ no problem just bearing work and big features
17/ WORST MISTAKE leg looked so easy I switched off and must have done a 60 degree error and came out on the wrong path (lost 2mins)
18/ Again great leg, nav and running strength was strong through the marsh and was only 3secs off Dane's time so considering his speed meant my nav was insane.
19/20/ no significant time, just faffing finding the right bush
21-22/ Actually beat Dane by 50 sec on each one, was he tiring?
23-24/ Good
Run In: Pretty sure I won it, again only SPLIT THAT COUNTS!

In conclusion probably the best result I have ever had in O, just a shame there were none of the really good M20s as I don't think I would have been to far off?

Warm Up/Down 10:00 [3]

Nowhere near enough because of the rain.

Commute (bike) (to parkrun) 25:00 [3]

Warm Up/Down 5:00 [3]

Running (Ashtom Court Parkrun) 17:29 [3] 5.0 km (3:30 / km)

Really annoying actually as I won the race but my time was well off what I wanted and expected. Also all a bit of a rush as had to get to Abi's at 9:50 to head up to Oxford.

Orienteering (OUOC & UBOC Training) 40:00 [3]

Really good fun, o path and contour only courses. Was tired so was taking it really easy and so nav was pretty good.

Orienteering (OUOC & UBOC Training) 35:00 [3]

Peg relay. Again nav good as I was going slow except for the middle where I have no idea what I did.
missed the SI race as I was freezing and don't want to injure myself, also there wasn't much gain as I knew the area quite well now.
felt pretty guilty about not collecting in the rain.

Note

Just revisited SWXC results and Miles beat me by 20secs. I have been consistently faster in training and so I think my fitness is improving. Also Scott Campbell beat me a couple months back in the park run and I know for a fact he is slower than me and he has run a 17:16 and so I think sub 17 is possible.

Warm Up/Down 10:00 [3]

Running (Stead Run Ashton Court) 47:45 [3]

Good little run, felt strong. Shins aching a little but otherwise good run. Normally go very slow on Friday but Ollie was going at a reasonable pace so decided to just stay at that because yesterdays session wasn't that hard.

A lot of people run a race to see who is fastest. I run to see who has the most guts, who can punish himself into exhausting pace, and then at the end, punish himself even more.

Warm Up/Down 30:00 [3]

To/from bus stop
To/from combe Dingle and start
General warm up

Intervals (Hilly Mile Reps) 22:00 [3] 4.0 mi (5:30 / mi)

I was quite looking forward to this session and not really sure what to expect. There was a smaller group than usual, which was weird as it was a combined session (Midland champs on sunday?). Times are all half correct as it was all a bit unclear, so partly a guess.
-5:40ish (learning route)
-5:40ish (went further than a mile as I didn't know where the finish was.
-5:30
-5:24
Last mile was quick as Myles pushed quite hard and we worked well together in pacing. The route is really good, loved the hill as it was a 'proper hill'! Would have liked a few more better people as it was weird setting the pace myself.

Includes run to and from

Intervals (UBCCC Intervals) 20:00 [3]

2x2
3x4
2x2
Felt strong and kept a consistently high pace throughout. Weirdly easy session partly because a lot of them were going to a race on Sunday. I thought we were doing 6x20 sec sprints after but we didn't.
