Running race (Blorenge Fell Race) 24:19 [3] 4.0 km (6:05 / km) +450m 3:53 / km
Had very little sleep for various reasons the night before and so even as I woke up I wasn't 100% sure I was going, but then said the hell with it!
There was a very narrow race start and there were a few good guys, so I knew I needed to get into a good position.
Some guy went way too quickly and I knew he was so pushed but not full out and was in second for first section. Then I caught up with him and passed him less as an intention to lead the race but to demoralize him so he would go at my pace. But I got a gap and kept pushing. I gained a decent gap in the wooded section but I could see there was a group forming behind me. Luckily because I had a gap going onto the open fell when it turned brutal I could set my own pace which maintained and lengthened the gap. The last 15 metres of the hill were just too steep and I had to walk, just digging to be first on to the top.
Started the decent and pushed really hard so I could set my own line on the decent, nearly missed some of the turns as I didn't see the tape and the decent was just savage. I tried to keep myself in control as possible but I think I spent more time in the air than on the ground. Got to the wood and glanced back to see Duncan rapidly gaining,so I let myself go on the rocky decent, going so fast my eyes blurred and luckily had a gap big enough I could slow down for the tunnel.
Finished off on the road and won my first fell race!!!!
I have no idea why my form is so good at the moment but its really motivating me to keep training. I won a bottle of champagne and was only 19 secs off the course record.
