Warm Up/Down 30:00 [3]

Running race 44:47 [3] 12.0 km (3:44 / km)

Set off on the super aggressive start exactly as planned out of danger going fast but feeling in control, looking around I could see I was with some quick people (too quick?).
Made it around the first short lap and saw Peter Bray and tagged on to him and stayed on his shoulder for all of the first big lap which put me into a really good position.
Then on the hardest part the long exposed incline he edged ahead and I went back, from then on it was just about keeping pace. For 1 and a 1/2 laps I kept him within eye sight but he edged forward and I went back unable to find a group to work with.
Then on the final lap in a sort of no amns zone conciously kept telling myself to keep digging and keep the pace up but it was hard with few people behind and the group ahead just too fast.
Then on the hill down I started to feel a cramp in my right calf. From experience I rarely get a muscle cramp and so I knew this could be deadly if I wasn't careful (and so close to the finish).
What it resulted in is the most embarissing sprint finish ever, where I was neck and neck with a guy I knew I felt strong enough to over take but I couldn't fully extend my right leg so was running in such a weird style and threw myself over the line.

Overall really pleased, bit annoyed that last year I put in so much more training felt I ran a better race and came a worse position, guess it shows you how critical a tactical raise and just general fitness are.

Also annoyed that if Peter Bray hadn't sped up on that section I probably could ahve kept with him and

atleast 15 places higher???

Race Write Up:

Started fast but conciously let people get ahead of me whilst only slightly easing down. Then around the 1st lap found myself gatting passed by a group with both my nemesis' in 'hairy arms' and 'Jarlath' I knew both were on form so was worried about keeping with them, but went for it.

The next lap flew by and I knew I was on for a pb if I stayed in this group. Held on for the third and final lap and felt myself tiring but still stayed in the pack. Then there was some jostling so moved in just behind Jarlath.

Then on the finishing straight which was very long kicked early and got tired but got such a gap I ebat everyone but JArlath in the group.

Probably one of the best paced races I have ever run in my life.

Commute (bike) 12:00 [3]

Orienteering 40:00 [3]

Training with UBOC on the downs.
Was a lot of fun and really technical that area is definitely a hidden gem. Was fairly controlled and recovering from yesterday butt still made a few stupid errors.
Nav is noticeably becoming more stable which is positive and something which will be tested as S champs

Warm Up/Down 35:00 [3]

includes cool down and long warm up.

Running race 16:10 [3] 5.0 km (3:14 / km)

Loads of reasons why I wanted to do this race with the main one being I didn't know where my fitness was before BUCS and what to expect.
Obviously very happy but couldn't help wondering what I could have run with better training.
Will update on race later :)

Note

Yo Grey check it :P

Running 45:00 [3]

Standard docks run, wanted a bit more tempo but not too strenuous so stuck with Lawrence the whole way round so was going pretty quick but in control the whole way and not too tired after wards

Commute (bike) 30:00 [3]

Orienteering 39:00 [3]

Outrageously hungover and ran so badly haha

Worst bit was when I over took Peter Maliphant and then messed up and he overtook.

Commute (bike) 25:00 [3]

Friday Jan 23, 2015 #

Running 55:00 [3]

Very very slow run as went with a friend who doesn't really run. Probably good to have a slow run as I may run the park run tomorrow and am doing the BOK event on Sunday.

Note

So tired atm didn't realise BUCS was a week away

Running 47:00 [3]

New shoes were really good no signs of not fitting or causing blisters :)

Commute (bike) 15:00 [3]

Warm Up/Down 10:00 [3]

Intervals 22:00 [3]

2/4/6/6/4/2
On the last 4 mins I only did 2 mins as I didn't wan to go nuts.
Yeah glad to make it to this, felt good, wasn't pushing too insane but still very hard.
Weather was pretty freezing.

Commute (bike) 15:00 [3]

Horrible weather absolutely torrential rain in freezing winds

Very slow but fun pub run :)

Warm Up/Down 20:00 [3]

Knew it was going to be a fun course just from the start

Orienteering 1:02:49 [3]

Very pleased with this run!

** YES I MISSED CONTROL 11 ** (Before this mispunch I was coming 2nd!)
This was a minor control which would have added a minute tops.

Actually kept with my plan of staying steady and throughout the race didn't do anything nuts and just kept running on the hills and tough sections.

Just misses and hesitations mistakes, a part from control 15 where I misread the map and lost some time.

Absolutely loved the area and planning which really suited my traits.

Obviously disappointing to missout on what would have been a very good result but oh well.

Commute (bike) 30:00 [3]

Slid over on the way back but was going 1mph so no problems (very icy)

Running 25:00 [3]

The parkrun was cancelled but some xc runners and so went for a friendly loop :)

Running 21:00 [3]

Orienteering 34:00 [3]

Re ran the Leigh woods course which I did so terribly last year. Jogged round still made a few slips but basically fine, a testament to how a stable slow race is better than fast and sloppy (something I need to learn)

Old time 52mins
Duncan 32mins

Note

Bumped into Ali and had a chat which was nice

Running 19:00 [3]

Thursday Jan 15, 2015 #

Surfing 45:00 [3]

Waves were pretty big and cleanish, prrobably safer than I was treating it but sat on the middle/inside so got worse waves but knew I would be fine.

Wednesday Jan 14, 2015 #

Running 1:00:00 [3] 12.0 km (5:00 / km)

Last EX11 run, and it was a good one. strong up but steady back!

Saturday Jan 10, 2015 #

Surfing 2:00:00 [3]

Classic sidders :)

Friday Jan 9, 2015 #

Running 1:05:00 [3] 14.5 mi (4:29 / mi)

Set off intending to do the 20k route, but got past Talaton and really couldn't be bothered so did the Harpford loop which was pretty boring.
Pace was ok but near the end I was more tired than I should have been.

Thursday Jan 8, 2015 #

Running (Hashing) 1:10:00 [3]

Great hash, nice to get out and do one again, especially a well laid one by Alan.
Basically jogged slowly around with Joss round. I was getting pretty tired and my torch ran out which made all the loops at the end a bit harder!

Wednesday Jan 7, 2015 #

Running 40:30 [3] 8.0 km (5:04 / km)

Very slow, just trying not to get ill with the family still all sick

Tuesday Jan 6, 2015 #

Running 50:00 [3]

4/6 people in my family are ill so am running more to get fresh air than anything else! Any way nice run around east hill, fitness definitely lacking on the hills (ill/unfit/lack of motivation???)

Monday Jan 5, 2015 #

Running 1:07:00 [3] 14.5 km (4:37 / km)

Solid distance feeling tired but OK, the run seemed to go pretty quickly.

Warm Up/Down 20:00 [3]

Running 25:00 [3]

SWXC
Reached a nadir in my running. Pulled out of the race. Cba with deets because it's just depressing :(

It has given me the wake up call that I seriously need to up my training and general attitude.

Thursday Jan 1, 2015 #

Warm Up/Down 5:00 [3]

Running 1:53:00 [3] 21.0 km (5:23 / km)

Great run, probs my fave route locally. Really tough with some meaty hills but also as a route just seems to flow quite nicely.

Was up for pushing it round but Grey was struggling throughout haha

No real issues but was definitely more tired than expected by the end also nice to see my minimus shoes were of no issue at all and so I can take them out on longer runs.
