Orienteering (Training at Swinley East) 4:00:00 [4] 16.0 km (15:00 / km)

Time and distance and accurate, but it was a long hard day.
Graham Gristwood was there who I was 5 metres of beating in a 1km race.
Then we did a relocation exercise followed by me and Sean running a course, but at each control we waited and chose different routes. With hindsight I should have just done it on my own as Sean is not the best orienteer.
Then a relay and a final 1km race/orienteering course because we had to reach the controls (even if they weren't there). Beat Harry because I just followed and over took after the last leg. Wanted to lead but the lack of controls disorientated me.

Warm Up/Down (Jogging to start) 20:00 [3] 2.0 km (10:00 / km)

Probably the longest I have ever had to run to get to the start of a race.

Orienteering (RAF Champs) 1:26:00 [5] 9.2 km (9:21 / km)

I blame not eating enough and the 4 hour journey up for the terrible performance!
So annoyed because there were large sections I should have done well because it was just a long running stretch but I couldn't find the energy. Also I made tonnes of mistakes which were really bad and so I just lost motivation and the technically hardest bit was last and I just didn't care.
Also it was freezing cold and because of poor organisation ect.. I couldn't get changed and so my muscles cramped up (never been this tired in my life)

Orienteering (Laying Control) 1:50:00 [3]

Laying the controls for the training, took a while because I wanted them to be really accurate and from the response everyone found them fine, maybe I placed them so they were too visible (glad I did as it was dark when we were collecting them)

Orienteering (shadowing) 45:00 [3]

No offense to Jack but his navigating was not great, basically he was a strong runner pushing really hard to show he was good but couldn't read the map! He would set off in a general direction he thought was right and just run until he realised he was wrong. Nearly every control I had to correct him.

Orienteering (collecting controls) 40:00 [3]

Once again the session ended late and everyone struggled to collect all the controls in the pitch black wood, I was finding them on memory. Tess needs to rethink how we lay courses so that this issue doesn't happen all the time.

Running (down the river) 50:00 [3] 8.0 km (6:15 / km)

Steady run down the river, and then on the section towards Tipton I did fartlek, so 2 minutes hard, 2 minutes rest. Tried to find a new section and just ended up running around a wet field.

Running warm up/down (before and after) 20:00 [3]

not as much as i should have done

Orienteering race (Devon Galoppen) 1:07:00 [5] 8.3 km (8:04 / km) +260m 6:59 / km

Really good day, apart from the start a pretty good run, not sure of results yet though, hoping for top 4.
Moe analysis coming, when i get the result.
Wasn't sure whether to run the brown because it sounded too long, but so glad i did because once i got into gear it went really smoothly.

Only 6 minutes behind Ben and Jack Benham, with my awful start so really pleased with that result, because i was close but had potential to improve by a lot.

Control 1 I deliberately went slow but I just panicked and got disorientated lost 2 minutes there. Then to 2 tried to refocus, could see exactly what I should hit,but got there and couldn't see the control so thought I had gone wrong so after another 2 minutes of running around came back and saw it in a hole. Then control 3 back on course and got a quicker time than all the others. control 4 once again ran exactly the right way didn't see it began running around and then just glimpsed down the hill. Control 5 pretty good just lost about 25 seconds finding the right rock. control 6 looking at the other splits took me a while but it felt like I had gone quite fast, navigation wise just too hesitant. Really quick time to 7 as it was just following the leat. Control 8 I was worried about but I actually did quite quickly,as the contour feature was quite obvious over the hill. Then straight down to 9, just a couple seconds finding the exact point. Control 10 really quick just straight over the hill and then 11 I was in the right place just took me a while to find the control which I don't think was that well described. 12 and 13 just should have picked the pace up instead of hesiatating. Then control 14 again got to the right place, if a bit cautiously and spent a while with 4 other guys trying to find the control, if I had payed less attention to them and more to the map would have got it quicker. Then 15 went the wrong side of the river but not a problem, if it had been deeper I would have had to go back. then 16 just took me +30 secs to find the control in a ditch. 17 I thought i had done slow but my time was ok,again just panicking in the area, finally 18 should have just seen the obvious feature (stream) and run. Into the weird finish and done.
Most detailed report ever!

Running hills (free period run) 1:00:00 [4] 7.0 mi (8:34 / mi)

Ran from the schools up to east hill and around and then back to my house and then to the school. Haven't gone for a proper run in a while so it was good.

Orienteering (Core Hill training) 35:00 [4] 4.3 km (8:08 / km)

Not sure how to assess because Ben basically just showed me up at every point and I didn't run a single clean leg which was really embarrassing. It was good to have some pressure added but also a wake up call to the amount of training I need to do if I hit my targets of getting respectable place at theBritish champs or JK.

Orienteering 30 [3] 4.0 km (8 / km)

general running to collect controls and warm up etc...

Running (warm up) 15:00 [3]

Orienteering race (Schools score championshi) 45:15 [5]

Really good race, cam 2nd in the 12-13 year old category and was a long way ahead of the rest of the field.
Generally ran a good race as navigation was very easy but route choice was crucial and keeping the momentum.
Didn't realize I had missed a control and so didn't get all of them and missed the cut by 15 seconds so -5 points. No real problems just not great route choice on some legs which let me down.
As a team we did really well, coming third in the senior boys which is a h=great achievement with the star runner being Jamie Barker as he got more than Zak and only two controls less than Joss despite it being his first time. With a team that had done two events before we could have easily won!!!
All in all great day with two funny car journeys.
Got my first buff!
