walking 50:00 [1] 3.0 mi (16:40 / mi)

Note

Last training logged was sometime in 2017!!! For the record, since then:
about 20 20-30-mile bike rides in Hawaii in January, a few miles lamely trotted in AK in February, 3400 miles biked from St Augustine to San Diego and LA in Feb - May, 600 miles biked from Crescent City OR to San Fran in May, another 100-200 miles biked in AK in June and a couple local O meets and hikes, 3 10-20-mile bike rides in CT in July, a few hikes in AK in August, all the events at NAOC and COC in August, 4 10-30-mile bike rides in CT in September, 2 days Oing at Pawtuckaway and one at Pond Mtn in September, a couple 2-mile walks in CT in October, then this week's O meets.

July thru October is perhaps the most sedentary stretch of my life since high school; spent my energy instead helping Mom downsize 56 years of life in one home to a smaller apartment where she is very happy.

orienteering race 1:20:31 [3] 4.9 km (16:26 / km) +150ft 15:42 / km
shoes: solomon speedcross 4

Had trouble with cold hands, even with gloves on, so started with a long trail trot to try to warm up. Finally warmed up at about control 5. Generally took very safe routes, including long ways out of the way on trails. Very slow going thru the forest for me; I think being cold and having very stiff legs resulting from sudden running after months of lethargy made me not highly nimble. Just went slowly and didn't make any grave errors. Pleased with my performance. The map and the terrain matched each other well for me, so I tried to follow terrain more and compass less.

orienteering race 14:28 [4] 1.6 km (9:02 / km)

Tight hammies!! They are shocked by yesterday's activity. sprint 1. simple navigation. didn't note any errors. Limited only by poor fitness.

orienteering race 19:02 [4]
shoes: solomon speedcross 4

Sprint 2. Again troubled by difficulty seeing map for first couple controls. Hesitated heading in to #2 from the south, ran all the way to w end of bridge before turning into #6, pleased to interpret terrain nicely to find 7 and 9 and 13. Generally took safe routes exc to 9. No troubles.

orienteering race 37:30 [4] 2.8 km (13:24 / km)
shoes: solomon speedcross 4

Middle. Cool and sprinkling. Had a remarkably difficult time seeing the map - particularly the areas of contour detail. Problems were less about poor interpretation of the map than simply not being able to see it. Took all trail or open routes. Turned too early into 4. Very sloppy navigation to 5, including failure to find the end of the fence until my third pass. Tried to skip directly from 7 to 10 but caught myself when 1/2 way there, then DID go from 8 to 10, then realized I hadn't been to 9, so went back... But, had fun.
