Amy Thompson 8K (KCMO), only 20 sec slower than last year - very pleased. Pretty even pacing. 1st mile split 7:37. Temp at start 73F; breeze from the south was nice, but on Ward Parkway it was muggy. 5th in M60.

Walked the 2nd, Mich, River Ridge, N Iowa square. A bit warm (70F) to walk in a cotton t-shirt and cordoroy pants. In the shady parts was nice, but need to get use to the sun beating down. Summer will be here if not already today. Got a 6 in turtle off the Michigan turnpike overpass; a driver passing by stopped and said she was going to do the same thing after she had passed by once earlier. Tomorrow's 8K will be an adventure - don't know what to expect. Not brimming with energy these days.

Run from house to Allen FH (route: via W Campus Rd, MSB - did 7 chin/pull ups, 1 lap around MSB, 6 pull/chin ups), then to AFH. Will try doing straight pull ups next time to see if strain at elbow joint is reduced.

Run with Dog Days group from AFH to Louisiana and 18th. 1 loop around Edgehill Rd (up hill 2x), then back home via Jayhawk Blvd with a side step to Emery Rd to see if there was a back way out of the West Hill Apts - to alleviate the parking hassles during the Tour of Lawrence bike race. No suitable exit without ruining a lawn. Pretty pace at first, then two walk breaks and slowing down the pace. Over 7 miles today, more than planned. Walk tomorrow!

Took day off from work - my "mental health day". Then did the crazy thing - took both Dee's and my bikes to Cycleworks for tune-ups. I ended up getting a new bike - after 40 years and probably 20 years of Gary Long encouraging me to get a new bike from him. Didn't want to repaint the rusting Gios. Guess I'll bike more but still want to keep at marathon training.
Oh, it's a Giant Defy1 (not a replacement for the Gios, but will do just fine).

Rode to Clinton Overlook, then to arboretum and back home via Alvamar, then Fall Creek. Seemed sluggish at breakfast, but once on the bike, had energy today, enough to get off the saddle a few times. Sleep is good!
A little more humidity, but not annoying (for me; Dee doesn't like it already). Temp: 70s, partly cloudy, then sunny. Forgot to reset the Garmin Edge, so had to do the math and subtract the ride distance to Lakeview (from May 11).

Then 5 min Dog Days stretching.
Part 2: 9th & Vermont to Mich, west on 7th to HighPointe, back E on 6th to Vermont and back to start. 20 min rest (off clock)
Part 3: jog home.

Best mile split: 7:57 (all splits)

Hard run; took a nap and was sluggish the rest of the day.

PTOC sprint O/picnic/club meeting - Mike Shifman course setter. Warned to wear long pants - not an urban park O. Expected to be rusty - and was. Did not read map at 32 and circled around all the paths to get to it; should have stayed on trail to 3 instead of taking the boardwalk; should have taken a bearing and better pace counted to #7 using the broad spur by the field/woods edge as attackpoint. Got to get that cataract surgery done. Vision was blurred in the woods, blinking didn't help. Out of-focus, blurry, lost of depth perception. Came and went - so running was bad part of the time. Tiptoed through rockier parts - just having been running trails and woods at all this year. Older legs can't lightly hop from rock to rock anymore. From barely dunking a basketball on a 10 ft goal to now barely jumping a foot short of that same goal. It is what it is.

Recharged the Nite-Rider light last evening, took 15 minutes to put it back on the road bike, but still managed to put in 12 miles to Lakeview and back - of course it was light by then. The flashing rear light battery was still good. Nice spin - good rpms. Temp: 70F, overcast. Feeling much better than that drained feeling trying to run last Sunday at Clinton SP.

Itchy eyes afterwards - may be Zyrtec season again.

Damon and I accompanied Dee to her first 5K road race after her surgery - the Mother's Day Run in Overland Park. I walked around and ran some to take photos.

I walked back and had a chance to read the O map Mike provided. Temp: 87F. I was just exhausted and not up to it.
We picnicked afterwards as a final farewell to Raymond. I'll have to catch him in the UK next time.

First lap kept pace with Karen Hyde and David Hack, then start of lap 2 pulled away on the slight incline going east. Pretty event pace and finished strong. First fast pace race in a long time - a nice change from the Galloway marathon training method. 4th in M60-64

Only difference, walked 1 mile at start, and ended up with only 2/10th of a mile on return walk.
