biking (road bike) 50:00 [3]
(sick)

PM - beautiful day, windy from the west. To Lakeview+. On the way back and after feeling pretty tired, did the gentle climb to Kasold & Lakeview Road then turh south and get very dizzy - felt like I'd just completed the worse wind sprint. Had to get off my bike to recover (about 30 sec). Then gentle ride home. Still not over whatever I had.

orienteering 1:08:23 [5] 0.75 km (1:31:11 / km)
spiked:2/12c

AM - Fleming Park red course. First run in a long time, coughing almost all gone. Got most controls in good time, except route choice to #10 got messed up withe fight and had to bail out east to doublecheck another reentrant and the road to reconfirm were I was.

orienteering (night O) 49:08 [5]

PM - Fleming Park West night O. Score course. 3rd (44 sec back of Gary Thompson). Ran hard tonight. Lots of mowed grass. Dick Luckerman pretty much set his controls along edge of woods or on lone trees in the open.
Enjoyed listening to the KU victory over Arizona after the run.
Fleming Park is in Lee's Summit - boyhood home of Jeff Graves, the big guy who helped win the game tonight,

running/walking 27:00 [1]

Northbrook: AM - through neighborhood, turned around at PF Changs (restaurant w/2 huge Chinese horses, and a valet parking podium - too pricey for me). Sunny.

Sunday Mar 16, 2003 #

running/walking 1:23:00 [3] 3.0 mi (27:40 / mi)

AM - w/Dee from motel to Botanical Gardens - meadered through neighborhoods hitting a few deadends. Had to stay on Lake part of the time. Took about 20 min break to walk around garden. Sunny, ran in shorts & windshirt.

running/walking 38:00 [3]

AM, Northbrook: Somme Woods from motel (Red Roof Inn, Waukegan & I-94). on prairie trails and in woods other times. Saw 5 deer. Woods are nicer than RockCrusher (no thorns).

Note

in Evanston for my brother's (Don) funeral.

AM - BFC weights

Sunday Mar 2, 2003 #

orienteering 1:10:00 [5]
18c

AM - Spike ask me to design a course for Rockcrusher for us (Mary, Spike & me) to train. 18 controls - control picking at first, then a couple of longer legs; didn't shy away from climbs. Locations were mostly the more complicated (e.g., 3 tiny reentrants in a row) variety. In reality, some locations were more "map imagination" by the mapmaker willing the area to be more complex. It had been awhile running here so attacking the control locations seemed new and not "oh, I've done this before."
35F, sunny, some snow on the ground.
Spike shadowed me on leg 16-17 - EF ("embarrassment factor") caused a boom. Got to focus and not try to entertain The Shadow.

AM - hung 20 markers for score course - mostly driving to locations.
PM - after event, ran course during marker pickup. Pleasant snowfall during event and pickup.
