spiked:1/21c

US Relay Champs (McCall, ID) - 4th (anchor leg). Troubles on several legs. Slow to #1, boomed #2 (bad pace counting), did not use trail to #4 (& control hard to find), big boom to #10 (ended up going to 19).
Teamed w/ Mary Jones & Neuburgers again - ended up 2nd 8pt open team. Mary & Nancy had good runs.

running/walking 1:17:00 [3] 5.0 mi (15:24 / mi)

PM - Jenny Lake, Grand Tetons, run to Hidden Falls before dark. Had to walk a lot going up. Saw a deer about 10 ft away on hairpin turn on trail. It tried to move away and ended on the other side of hairpin - and saw 2 more deer. No bears. Light drizzle - rain off and on all day.

Counts as RRD#6.

orienteering 1:10:00 [2]
7c

AM - Kill Creek Park - used 1/11/03 map & red course. Stayed on trails mostly including the brushier trails in the woods and in tall grass - couldn't completely avoid the nasties and try to get near the controls. Certainly rusty and this training should help.

Thursday Jun 19, 2003 #

strength/stretching 33:00 [2]

AM - Red Dog Days 5 (800 run, calisthenics, another 800, 3x stadium steps - halfway up, 600).

Wednesday Jun 18, 2003 #

biking (road bike) 1:35:00 [3]

AM - had car checked at Lawr Auto Diag - rode on South Trafficway bike path to Clinton SP (westmost campground) & back - flat then hills -
finally a good attack up a hill on the big ring. . . w/o puking.

Sunday Jun 15, 2003 #

biking (road bike) 1:39:00 [3]

AM - south via La., Sibleyville, then north by winery, back on 15th. Sunny, 70s, great ride. was going to take it easy hope I could avoid trouble. north stretch was great - good rpm, spun. Thought - should ride based on feel (not heart rate or speed or time) - probably would get dropped or work too hard with any of the pelotons in the area.

running/walking 20 [4]

AM - RedDogDay 3 (22 and I get a T-shirt). 2.5 mi run after a couple of stretching exercises - got there a little late. From Lied Center by Iowa St overpass to 15th/Kasols & back. Took Lawrence O map along some mapreading. Call this a run, not O.

running/walking 1:00:00 [1]

After RRD - ran w/map to Clinton Pkwy thru West Campus and turned onto Marvonne St neighborhood and back out; discovered a nice (short) wooded bike trail. Need to do more O before Idaho but I dont want one chigger bite this summer...

strength/stretching 30:00 [3]

AM - Red Dog Days (for strength training: a 3 effort instead of 1 for a change - more time sepnt with higher heartrate):
half mi warmup
2x100 backward hi-step running
calisthenics, various - some good for stretching
4 x stadium benches (1/2 up) (got into keeping up with some younger guys - bad sign).
half mi warmdown

Wednesday Jun 11, 2003 #

biking (road bike) 1:24:00 [3]

PM - Farmers trnpk - S trafficway (still need a gate instead of riding thru tall grass) - Clinton marina - back on bikepath to Alvamar & home. Felt faint at top of hills again. Got to not overdo it.

strength/stretching 30:00 [2]

AM - Red Dog Days - OK you Lawrencians know about this. I attended Don Gardner's 6 am session . Calisthenics, 1 mile jog, stadium steps, etc. Hey it's free and about 1000 people do this in the stadium. They say at Texas, even the football team doesn't get into their stadium to practice. Personal trainer, great setting, lots of people young and old, all for free..

Monday Jun 9, 2003 #

biking 45:00 [3]

PM - Lakeview+ - still sluggish and tired from Sat race.

Sunday Jun 8, 2003 #

Note

Absolutely worn out, took two naps. Beautiful weather today - a shame I can't get out. Walked dog in evening from Hillcrest - about 30 min.

Saturday Jun 7, 2003 #

running/walking 1:48:50 [4]

AM - Hospital Hill - ran with Dee the whole way - pace at start was comfortable and Dee was on the same pace, too. Keep the strides short - like spinning on a bike. Half way split was 51:24 - not negative splits this year. 26th M50-54

Thursday Jun 5, 2003 #

running/walking 40:00 [4]

PM - felt like pushing the pace a bit tonight. Lost about 14 lbs in the past few months. . we'll see what that translates into at Hospital Hill Sat.

strength/stretching 5:00 [1]

AM - 40pu35su

Tuesday Jun 3, 2003 #

running/walking 34:00 [2]

PM - Fall Creek

Sunday Jun 1, 2003 #

running/walking 1:25:00 [3]

AM - To Free St HS, then checked out new development NW of there - already paved roads and sideways - huge area and no ush on building houses yet. Looks like affordable housing is still a theory in Lawrence. Oh, the run felt pretty good (was exhausted after the urban O yesterday - meet directors would understand). Think I'll run Hospital Hill next week.
