orienteering 53:20 [5]

Wyandotte Park - Red course (2nd behind Spike).

orienteering 41:00 [2]
11c

After short rest after red course, went out on orange (skipped NW-most control, didn't want to go over the hill). Nancy Neuburger said red control #3 was coded wrong. After starting orange course, I decided to check out #3. spent first 10 min doublecheckingthe control. Saw Keith Layton & others searching around. Control was wrong (for red & white at least),so I andwrote the correct code before jogging on to the rest of the orange course.

Wednesday Nov 13, 2002 #

orienteering 37:00 [4]
spiked:0/7c

PM - night O at SM Park. Mary set the course - more interesting legs than last Sat w/ route choices. Controls were in rough locations but careful map reading was needed to get to the exact spot - good skill work in spite of (daytime) familiarity of park.
Rushed back to Lawrence to see Solna VIkings basketball team play KU women. Swedes made it close.

Tuesday Nov 12, 2002 #

strength/stretching 21:00 [1]

AM - weights (slow reps - 20 sec per)

Monday Nov 11, 2002 #

Note

Back of both legs (back of knees) really tight. Can hardly move after sitting down for awhile; but after first 2-3 steps, legs loosen up some.

Sunday Nov 10, 2002 #

Note

Clinton SP - fieldcheck in the dark green area - mostly trail corrections. Very tired after 1 1/2 hours. 2 hours total. Saw 2 deer on trail.

Saturday Nov 9, 2002 #

orienteering 1:34:00 [5] 7.6 km (12:22 / km)
spiked:1/14c

AM - Fleming Park East - PTOC - red course. Rough, rough woods - a bramble ramble. Map reading was good, no really big booms. Missed better route choices by not reading map better. Hydrated well at start noticing only 1 water stop at #9. Fairly warm.

orienteering 30:00 [5]
20c

PM - Night O (score course) Fleming Park West (new map). Dick Luckerman setup a nice course (no brambles compared to AM run). About 30 people showed up - lots of adventure racers. Finished about 6-7th. Legs were heavy from hard run this morning. Nite RIder headlamp compares well with Silva lamps - good investment after all.

Thursday Nov 7, 2002 #

strength/stretching 16:00 [1]

AM - weights - less time - then back home to resew the replacement velcro tabs on battery holder vest (gotta sew those suckers on - the glue comes off in the wash). Got to be ready for the PTOC night O.

Wednesday Nov 6, 2002 #

orienteering 53:00 [3]

6PM - night O training at Shawnee Mission Park. Spike drew out a course (no controls). Great night - cool, dry. Eric S and Mike S also made it. First time with NiteRider lamp. Works fine, bright - light throw isn't as wide as Silva lamps.

Tuesday Nov 5, 2002 #

strength/stretching 22:00 [1]

AM - weights (up the weights on presses, lightened up on stomach work).

Sunday Nov 3, 2002 #

Note

Clinton SP - 2 hours fieldchecking map.

Saturday Nov 2, 2002 #

running/walking 30:00 [2]

AM - Kansas HS cross country champs (5A & 6A). Ran around at Rimrock Farm to cheer on the Chesty Lions. They had runners in 4-5, and another pair about 20-21, then a whole slew of SMNW (perennial champs) runners before the 5th LHS runner (had pneumonia). Missed 1st by 5 points. Anyway, ran around from photo shot point to the next. Worked up a little sweat. XC and fall colors - was gorgeous; and reminded me of the Skogsport photos of o meets.
