Note
(injured) (sick) (rest day)

Saw Dr. Rob Jones the ART (Active Release Technique)/chiropractor today. I've been doing the routine half-wrong. Heat (not ice) before run, then ice afterwards. Worked on the knots inthe lower left calf and the right hamstring. Also looked at the left lower back which started getting sharp pains if I sat or stood the wrong way. Will check with insurance before continuing treatment. But, can at least do the recommended exercises.

Coughing all day yesterday (off and on, went to bed, coughed, finally figured I should take cough medicine). Ate a lot of cough drops today.

orienteering 1:38:00 [2] ***
(injured) shoes: Integrator

AM - Clinton SP. Didn't get up in time oo run with the Trail Nerds. Just as well, took a map and ran the trails to Land's End. 31F, windy, cloudy.
Might make it for 2 hours at next weekend's score-O.
Iced hamstring before, wrapped, and afterwards.

Saturday Feb 24, 2007 #

Note
(rest day)

Weather forecast was for bad - wet and maybe snow today. Stilled threatened to ride the Dam Run 5K course to get it certified, but wimped out (weather was dry enough the whole day - even sunny part of the time). Slept in, felt lazy, needed the rest.
Did taxes for 2006 - all at one sitting this year (use TaxCut and it wasn't complicated this year). So, wasn't completely worthless today. . .

Friday Feb 23, 2007 #

running/walking 40:00 [3]
(injured)

AM - Settler/Saddlehorn hills, plus hill to Bill Self's house at Fall Creek. Made an appt with Rob Jones, - one of those ART guys (Active Release Technique) for Monday. . .

Thursday Feb 22, 2007 #

Note

Wednesday Feb 21, 2007 #

running/walking 50:00 [3]

AM - ran to downtown (flat, no hills route). Stilling using wrap for hamstring

Tuesday Feb 20, 2007 #

strength/stretching 22 [1]

AM - Dog Days, hope I didn't overdo it on the back. A lot of crunches, leg lifts. . .

running/walking hills 23:00 [3]
(injured)

AM - Fieldhouse steps (1 loop around - one step at a time), then 5 laps with one lap speed-pickup.

Wrapped hamstring

Sunday Feb 18, 2007 #

Note
(rest day)

Thought about doing an easy run - wimped out. Then went to the women's basketball game at 1 pm (they beat K-State); then no desire to run before dinner.

Saturday Feb 17, 2007 #

running/walking 1:32:00 [3]

1 pm - Kaw River Trails - nice blanket of snow - deep only in a few spots. Ran mostly near riverbank side away from the wind. Used wraparound hamstring but thought about not.

Thursday Feb 15, 2007 #

strength/stretching 20:00 [1]

AM

running/walking 20:00 [2]
(injured)

8 laps with 4 chinups & 4 pullups in between.
Right shoulder sore - sleeping on that side way too often as tehre's still some pain on the left shoulder from that same day I injured the hamstring.
Getting old is no. . .

Wednesday Feb 14, 2007 #

Note
(rest day)

5 am: 7F - rolled over and snuffed the alarm clock. . .

Tuesday Feb 13, 2007 #

strength/stretching 15:00 [1]

AM - Dog Days

running/walking hills 20:00 [3]
(injured)

AM - 1 lap warmup,
2x fieldhouse steps (blue midsection all the way around, i.e., up/down about a third of the way up; then red upper section, upper 3rd). Honest tempo - not skipping any steps. In the winter, inside - this is a hill workout.

Sunday Feb 11, 2007 #

running/walking 1:55:00 [2] 10.9 mi (10:33 / mi)
slept:7.5 (injured) shoes: Asics GT2100

AM - ran Dee's 10 mile Sunday loop with Dee. Both of us had wrapped hamstrings, easy pace, 22F, sunny, winds from S. Halfway - front of (wrapped) right leg was sore - didn't figure out why until I got home. I bumped again a log or tree yesterday running through the woods. . . just a slight bruise and not part of the hamstring problem.
The stretch from 31st to Harvard on Wakarusa took forever . . . I really wanted to be in the woods or on the trail today. It was so nice yesterday.

Saturday Feb 10, 2007 #

orienteering 30:00 [1] **
slept:7.0 (injured) shoes: Integrator

AM - Pyscho Wyco Trail Run (10M/20M/50K) at Wyandotte Co Lake Park - only took photos as I didn't want to risk overdoing it on the hamstring. But, with the USGS topo with the course trail (& a copy of PTOC's map) found the spots I wanted photos. Mapread more around the NW part of the course (north of the archery range) and cut through more woods. The trails were icy (refroze after warmer temps mid-week). A lot people were fallin. . . I think almost everyone screwed their shoes, too.

Friday Feb 9, 2007 #

5 laps & 2x stairs.

Before: Advil, 15 min icing, used wrap.

5 laps & 2X eastside stairs.

Sunday Feb 4, 2007 #

running/walking warm up/down 15:00 [1]

orienteering race (score) 1:00:00 [3]
slept:7.5 shoes: Integrator

Shawnee Mission Park 1-hour score O' - first test of hamstring. At about 30 min into the race, took a fall and landed on my right knee. Ground was icy hard, but the hamstring didn't get bothered. So, good result overall. One boom going up a wrong streambed.

About 29F and sunny - so comfortable enough.

Wore the hamstring wrap. Iced hamstring and kneecap in evening.

Thursday Feb 1, 2007 #

strength/stretching 20:00 [3]
(injured) shoes: Asics GT2100

6 am - Dog Days workout - 5 pullups before calistehnics. Asked to do 8 chinups - did 5 & 3 more with "help". A lot of leg lunging (2 x 50m) - hamstring was OK - tried to be careful and not stupid about it.

running/walking 20:00 [3]
slept:7.0 (injured)

AM - Allen Fieldhouse.
4 laps, then did the chinups, then 4 laps more. Pushed the pace more than the past two weeks. Pace counted the laps - just shy of 300m.

Again, before workout - Advil, 15 min ice;
15 min ice afterwards.
