running/walking 41:00 [4] 4.3 mi (9:32 / mi)

PM - at Monterey&Peterson saw 6 deer (Deerfield Elem was named for the deer in this area). The deer have moved only a mile west. But there's development all around.
Moving pretty well at the end. Nice temp (50s), snow tomorrow?

strength/stretching 10:00 [1]

PM 50p40s30p, 5 min stretching!

Sunday Feb 24, 2002 #

running/walking 1:14:42 [5] 8.0 mi (9:20 / mi)

AM: Kaw River Trail: TT. no warmup, halfway split: 37:06. With all this recent slow running, had to see what full throttle can do. Used to run easily with stops on this course in 1:20 - oh well. Great weather: 60s & sunny.

orienteering 1:22:00 [2]

PM - On the way back from Damon's band performance at the KMEA conference in Wichita, went to Sand Hills SP (Hutchinson) - ran with old map made in 1987 (USGS & good aerial photos) plus new park map with new trails. After 15 years the contour lines for the hills and dense marshy depressions are still accurate. Many trails are mowed paths.

biking 45:00 [3]

PM - Lakeview+ (just beat the rain). Nice overcast, dreary -looking day - reminiscent of the lowlands of the Netherlands.

Sunday Feb 17, 2002 #

orienteering 2:46:00 [4] 14.75 mi (11:15 / mi)

Randolph's Revenge - 15 mi trail run. w/ Fritz steady pace about 10 min/mile, with walking up all hills. Good plan as we both finished without undue stress (no cramping up!) Nice weather; trails less rocky than those at Clinton SP. Both ran with O'map I made; trails still need to be checked.

biking 29:00 [2]

to Lakeview - easy, first time this season, inspired by Olympic xc races (no snow, so glide on the bike). 55 degrees today.

Saturday Feb 9, 2002 #

orienteering 1:38:00 [4]

Ernie Miller Park. "Motala-style" - 2k, 4k, 3k loops. Wasted a lot of time on 1st control (didn't check 1:5000 scale, didn't read map carefully. Approx ETs: 2k in 25 min; 4 k in 45, 3k in 28 (need to check official results). Trails were strewn with fallen branches from ice storm (quicker to go through brushy forest than trails in some places).
Again PTOC had starts indoors letting computer usage override old ways of timing runners - caused congestion at starts; had to shout my finish for each leg; then got next leg's map whenever. Different culture...
No anger outbursts today (no fever either).

running/walking 1:51:00 [1] 10.2 km (10:53 / km)

AM - Wyandotte Co Park w/Spike easy O, easy run on icy ground; avoided the steep "black diamonds" - took bunny slopes whenever possible; cleated shoes worked but had to avoid the steeper places.
