7 AM

Cycling (To/from Station) 1:20:20 [3] 27.39 km (2:56 / km)

Home to Waterloo, then later from Teddington to Bushy Park, then later to Surbiton (all before 10am) then, the following day from Waterloo to Borough, then later from Borough back home. Very warm on the Saturday, hot on the Sunday.
9 AM

Trail Running race (BPTT) 19:55 [5] 5.0 km (3:59 / km)
ahr:180 max:196 slept:5.5 shoes: Adidas Swoop 2s

Very hot, considering the time-of-day. Wanted to push hard and do a sub-19 time but it was not happening in this heat, + it took 5-6 seconds to cross the start line and the first 1km was also quite blocked with people. 650 at today's BPTT, the event is getting a little too big. Massively increased the pace for the last 300m to get a sub-20 minute time (although I wasn't keeping track of the overall time during the race.

I've updated my Munro tick-list - see http://oobrien.com/map/munroist.php
The expeditions last week were Nos. 58 and 59. Next Munro action after the Purple Thistle in mid-August.

Orienteering (Trail Challenge) 49:18 [4] ** 10.52 km (4:41 / km) +40m 4:36 / km
ahr:176 max:184 slept:6.0 shoes: Adidas Swoop 2s

SLOW Trail Challenge in Ham Riverside, running the 10K course. Very hot and sunny. I arrived only a few minutes before the start, so had no time to look at the map and plan routes. So, I followed the pack for the first two controls. After then, I started to take my own routes, through the western part of Richmond Park and back through Ham Riverside - I didn't see many other runners in this section, and took some slightly poor route choices, running 200m further than most others I spoke too, according to the GPS. Didn't make any significant mistakes though. Just felt my running speed was a little slow - but it was very hot. Ed won in just over 40 minutes.
10 PM

Cycling (To/from Event) 2:09:37 [3] 50.1 km (2:35 / km)

From work to the Hawker Centre, Ham (took some wrong turnings, so had to go most of the way down Oxford Street) in 58 minutes, then later back home via Shepherd's Bush, Euston Road and the supermarket. Able to sustain around 37km/h along Euston Road.

Cycling hills (To Event) 2:15:00 [3] 32.9 km (4:06 / km) +553m 3:47 / km

Exhausting cycle from Dunblane to Loch Turret Reservoir, via Muthill and Crieff, on a very heavy, steel, three gear Raleigh bike (the bottom gear wouldn't stay in position which made things harder.) Had to get out of the saddle on numerous occasions, and push the bike up two parts of the final 300m climb to the loch. Time includes two rests.
3 PM

Hillwalking long (Munros) 4:10:37 [2] 16.76 km (14:57 / km) +748m 12:14 / km
shoes: Hillwalking Boots

The weather was so nice, and I was in Edinburgh, so it would have been rude not to have "bagged" an extra Munro - my 155th distinct one. This was Ben Chonzie, near Crieff, climbed from the Loch Turret Reservoir dam, anti-clockwise, using the excellent track beside the loch to get to the head of the valley, then a short and easy climb to a col, then smooth, grassy slopes, populated with mountain hares. Overshot the summit slightly, following a sheep-track. Time to summit was 2h 20. Visited a minor, rockier summit on the return. Very hot day, drunk several litres of water from mountain streams. I had one eye on the clock as it was a long cycle back to the station at the end of the walk.
6 PM

Cycling (Back Home) 1:41:11 [3] 32.9 km (3:05 / km) +290m 2:57 / km
shoes: Hillwalking Boots

Back to Dunblane station. Had hoped this would be easier as the starting 6km was all downhill, but there were two big hills in the centre section after Muthill, along a Roman road, and I had to get off and push the heavy bike over these. I was racing to try and make a train, as each km passed by I was just inside my target, but only just. With 15 minutes to go I suddenly realised the train left four minutes earlier than I had thought, so the last 4km were a frantic and exhausting pedal, including the wrong way down Dunblane's old high street. Apart from my poor timekeeping it was a pleasant enough route. After 101 minute journey, made the train 20 seconds before it departed.
