Jukola leg 1. It had been raining for 2 days solid. The parking fields had been wiped out and assembly looked like Glastonbury.

Got the special moment waiting for the off. I took it steady out of the field - had to, there was a big traffic jam. The first leg had at least a road attack point but the route to the road was a lot of green. I tucked in for a bit and then came out of the train to get past a few bodies. Can now see from GPS that I went down a bit too far but picked up the shorter of the rides. Compass in, fingers crossed... yes, nailed it. 2 &3 were OK. Discovered that the marshes were not very marshy on the way to 4 and lost the plot. Overshot a bit but I picked it up fairly quickly. 5&6 it opened up and speeded up. Long leg to 7 and I went to the left on the zig zag road route by myself which was probably a mistake. Picked up the motorway coming out of 7, got 8 a going up the hill to 9 I caught Soph who was going really well. We managed to distract each other and missed 9, lost 2/3 mins and then I lost her to 10. Easy controls, an assembly run through a mud bath and a final loop through some grot where I got stuck in train. Until 17 when I got to the front of my group, ran off the front and then caught the group in front by the road between 19. & 20. I tried a wacky route to the field with 20 in it which didn't really work and then it was a slog to the finish to hand over to Nick. Absolutely brilliant and totally buzzing at the finish.

Physically I was flagging after the road to 7 but a gel sorted that out and the last couple of k hurt.

2'11" for 10.6k.
