Orienteering race (Br Sprints Quali York Uni) 15:28 [4] *** 3.5 km (4:25 / km) +25m 4:16 / km

First sprint race since JEC 2010 - really out of practice so not really sure how good I would do, just hopefully keep ahead of Adam and Ben ;-) [✓].

Messed up the first one and followed Jack Benham to his first control before settling down for the next few across the field and into the third part though the campus. Ended up on the wrong level on the right route round to the 13th and a little confused to the 18th. Overshot twenty and got into the finish a little ahead of Jack.

Probably a bit over a minute of mistakes and quite a bit down on Tom but felt my running was good.

Orienteering (Br Sprints B Final) 14:48 [4] 3.9 km (3:48 / km) +40m 3:37 / km

Really poor. Lots of hesitations in the circle when I was close but couldn't see the control. A few, actually quite a lot, of stupid mistakes as well. Wrong route to 4, turned too early into 7 and ran from 18 to 21. +2.30 on Peter H. Impressive from him and Chris Gallaway. Definitely feel that I could do better with more practice which is good. Looking forward to tomorrow more.

Needed a break from revision so went for a bike ride over to Windmill Hill. Zig-zagged up and down to check out it's sprint potential and looked round a dodgy estate nearby. Not big but would be alright occasionally, if the controls didn't get nicked. Should do some hill training there sometime.

Orienteering race (BUCS Relay - Bigland) 36:51 [4] **** 5.5 km (6:42 / km) +115m 6:04 / km

First first leg in a while so was pretty keen. Got the lead out the field and pushed on up the hill to the 1st. Was at the front of my gaffle until we went into the woods then had a poor bearing and gaffle and dropped back to about 7th. Little hesitant on the flatter bits before leading James Taylor round a couple then gave up at the far end and went pretty slow until the finish. Knee/hip felt better than yesterday so perhaps should have stuck at it and shown that a hangover is no excuse!
