Mtn. Biking race 1:15:00 [2] 7.08 mi (10:36 / mi) +242m 9:35 / mi
13c

I made a couple of foolish mistakes on this course. I headed the wrong direction at first to three. And then I misread the map and went to control nine after six. It was a good thing I noticed my error before I mispunched. It was a good course though that took us to a view and then a nice downhill. Not too technical.

I practiced pace counting this morning. I have found myself wanting to do this at certain times and unable to do so because I didn't know my count. I want to pay better attention to distances on the map. Sometimes my judgement isn't all that precise. And the reason I overestimate the time it takes me to return to base in a rogaine is because I am "eyeballing" it instead of measuring out the distance and thinking about my pace.

Going forward I will use a nominal 125 paces as an estimate for 100 meters. It is pretty close when walking a trail and a little short when walking through the woods. But as a conservative estimate over short distances, it should tell me when to start paying attention.
