Running warm up/down 15:00 [3]

Drills and a warm down jog ~800m. Not sure why I didn't turn my garmin on...

BUCS Relay on Danefield. Running first leg in the EUOC second team with Calum and Jack. Started off well sticking to Callum and Andrew. Overtook Andrew on the way to #5 and then Callum at #7. Unfortunately, the route from #7 to #8 goes straight over #5 so I thought it was a butterfly loop, perhaps wasting about 10s climbing up again before realising what I'd done! #9 I slightly overshot, wasting about 10s. On #10 I took the high path route but didn't cut down early enough, so almost coming in at 90degrees to the path! (0:10). #11 I hesitated as I had no attack point (0:15).

Overall I'm thrilled with my position and my time; fastest EUOC man and 6th fastest in on the 1st leg! 5.5km 245m +107% Duncan Birtwistle

Heart rate data is clearly a bit bizarre again, so don't think it's accurate

BUCS Individual on Ilkley Moor. I started 4 mins ahead of Kit Grierson, but wasn't aware of this (probably should have been!). He caught me up after my dreadful error on #5 and then we ran the rest of the race together. I lost a bit of time on #3 as I was being too cautious and could have simply looked up and used the fence corner and position myself (0:15). #5 was one of the worst errors; came across the stream too low and didn't know, took a long time to realise and even then was going very slowly (1:40). #10, happy with my route choice, take the high route and then dropping down between 19 and 20 and following the path through the boulder field, but then wasted (2:30) inside the control circle as I hadn't looked closely enough at the detail! #17 I unnecessarily returned to the path and therefore wasted about (0:30) on going straight.
Total time wasted ~4:55. Thinking back I also feel that I never truly pushed myself, perhaps I could have run a little faster I'm not sure...

Very gentle run to stretch my achiles and ready it for the weekend; hopefully 2 days of rest has been enough

Shorter intervals session in preparation for BUCS (woop!) 4 x 3min then 4 x 50m sprint. Feeling fine whilst running so all is looking good!

Relay training at Balkello Hill in Perthshire. Lots of climb, heather and in places knee deep snow made it tough going. Mist came down half way through making it ever more difficult. Was running it with Andrew all the way round, except when I failed on #9 and got disorientated before catching him up before 10. Great day out so much fun!
