Mullaghmeen - Green Course.
Had a pretty alright run. Lost 3 minutes on no. 4 as I got a little confused in the area. Kev caught me and I kept up with him till about no. 7, where we took differant routes but then he ran off... Rest of the race was alright, not sure about my route to no. 11 and I overan 14 a bit. Really liked the forest :) Think I could have done better but yea...

Orienteering (Training) 3:00:00 [3]

Went back to the Curragh today to do some Line-O with Dad. Started out on course A, and I dropped 5 controls along the line while he did the same on a differant course. Then I ran/walked his course, but I only managed to get 3 controls out of five. Went back and got them, and then we swapped maps and redid the exercise. Took a break and then went out on Course B, where we did two more courses, in the hilly area of Bun Hill. Did the same as earlier, and this time I managed to get all five. Definitely good training + fun :) Covered about 7.5km.

Orienteering (Training) 40:00 [3]
shoes: Icebug Spirit Olx

Planned to go to the Curragh for a 30 minute run, but I found a map of Curragh East in the car, so I decided to run with that. I did a bit of an old blue course that was on it, up near the Sunny Hill/Blackrath Cottages area, and then over to the top of Braveheart hill and back to the same area. The map was one from 2001, and I found it was completely different to the ground today, but I think that made it harder training since I had to be a lot more careful and always keep my eye on the map, especially cause I didn't have a compass. I don't know what distance I ran because I wasn't wearing a GPS but mam figured about 4/5k. I went hard for the last few minutes too, and ended up racing against Kev on the way back to the car... He started running circles around me though, I was so tired.

Running warm up/down 10:00 [2]

Warm Up: Lots of jogging, some stretching. Made sure I was really well warmed up.

Running intervals 13:00 [4] 2.5 km (5:12 / km)

6x 200m intervals with 200m jogging recovery. Started off fast with the first three, but I think I should have gone a bit slower on the recovery because I was shattered by the 4th. Did a really slow jog to make sure I was properly recovered and finished off the 5th and 6th. Really pushed myself on the 6th and I'm happy that I went out and did it :)

Orienteering race 1:02:00 [3] 4.5 km (13:47 / km)
shoes: Icebug Spirit Olx

Ticknock Forest - Green Course

The start of the course was kinda easy, there was barely any route choice and it was basically following tracks. I was doing fine until number 4, where I lost 12 minutes over unmapped vegetation changes. This was dissapointing because I was near the control but I got confused and thought I had gone to far. The rest of the course was alright, but I would have done much better if I'd taken a differant route to number 4 that didn't involve going through the area with that vegetation.

Orienteering (Training) 1:00:00 [3]

3rd Day of Training - Fascally

Started off by putting out 3 controls, but they weren't very hard - track junctions, hills and corners of car parks. Then I ran a course from the Women's JEC Relays. I really liked the terrain, and I had no major mistakes apart from some slower hesitant areas. I was running the same course as Niamh and she got back ahead of me (unsurprisingly) but I was happy with the course :)

Orienteering (Training) race 30:00 [3] ***

Wasn't very many of us left for training in the afternoon, and we just did a course somewhere. I think it was about 2.5k? I had a bad route choice to the first control, but I did alright for the the rest of the course, apart from being slow up the hills as usual.

1st Day of Training - The Hermitage

We started of by running a bit of a course around The Hermitage. The main point was to make plans and stick to them, which wasn't too hard. It was hard to run because of a lot of fallen trees, but nice training.

Orienteering (Training) 1:00:00 [3] *****

Dunalastair

I went with Aoife around the first 8 controls of the M21E course, and we did pretty awful in places, especially one control in particular where I'm not completely sure what happened, but it was fun :)

Orienteering race 17:34 [4] ** 1.9 km (9:15 / km)
shoes: Icebug Spirit Olx

JK Day 4, Newtyle Hill - Relays

I ran 2nd Leg in the Women's Short with Niamh and Ruth. I was really happy with my run after, all the legs were pretty short and fast. I was a bit slow for the 1st control, up the hill, but I'm happy with the rest of the course :)

Sunday Apr 8, 2012 #

Orienteering race 1:05:02 [4] **** 3.6 km (18:04 / km)
shoes: Icebug Spirit Olx

JK Day 3, Craig a Barns and Crieff Hill.

I did absolutely terrible on Day 3. The course was hard in places. I ran the completely wrong way to the 1st control, and even after I realised I still messed the control up after ending up in some pretty horrible vegetation. Starting off to number 2, I ran the wrong way again. The next few controls were OK, but I had a kinda dodgy route to 4. Rest of the controls were fine, but I never really got into the course, I wasn't really trying hard since I was kinda dissapointed in controls 1 and 2.

Saturday Apr 7, 2012 #

Orienteering race 51:50 [4] 3.9 km (13:17 / km)
shoes: Icebug Spirit Olx

JK Day 2, Dunastair.

I started off slow and careful, since this was my first ever race being a W16. I think that paid off until the 4th control, where I lost around 2 or 3 minutes. I took a bearing but I got kinda confused with a vegetation change and I lost my direction, but I find some features to relocate off and I got it fine after that. The rest of the race was OK, with just a few small errors in the circle, but I was slow, especially on the uphills.

Event: JK 2012

1 PM

Orienteering race 17:24 [4] 1.9 km (9:09 / km)

JK Sprint, Livingston Almondvale.

I started off pretty well in the little area with all the building and courtyards, but at No. 15 I lost about a minute or so after a small mistake. Then the course went over to the other side of the river, and I was just completely tired and a lot slower than I'd liked to have been running. I really enjoyed the course apart from my mistakes and it was pretty fun :)
