Orienteering race (Moonlight Madness 2) 47:20 [4] 7.68 km (6:10 / km) +115m 5:44 / km
ahr:155 max:167 shoes: New Balance

rain + night = fun (or increased difficulty for the sane people)

found navigation was a bit harder, lost about 2 minutes on 2 controls searching for them :(

felt I was running a little slow - the rain probably helped with this as it made me careful and also kept me feeling cool and fresh, felt my right hammie tighten up about 1/2 way and eased off for a few mins..

slipped and tripped at the end due to poor light + embankment and rocks poking out of tracks!

got the lot but was 2 to 3 mins late .. I think I probably would have beaten the 45 mins if it was day + dry ..

glad I went and didn't chicken out and go home :)

Orienteering (control collect) 11:36 [3] 1.21 km (9:35 / km) +20m 8:51 / km
ahr:130 max:152 shoes: New Balance

offered to pick up 5 controls since I was one of the last people there, and it didn't look like they had lots of helpers ..

really wanted to get back to the car and get dry, but once I got running it was good to be out again :)

Ultimate was called off so I had the time to stay.

Orienteering race (SL5) 1:47:18 [5] 10.56 km (10:10 / km) +254m 9:04 / km
ahr:150 max:172 shoes: Inov-8 Mudclaw 333

didn't really mind the cold climb to the start (more climb = before start = less climb during run + had a jacket)

first look at map and was very impressed - understand why 1:10000 was used as scale.

mix of open forest and complex rock with a bit of steep thrown in!

error on 4 (1 min) - jumped up some rocks then was disoriented took about 40 seconds to work out which way the map goes and where I had gone in the last 50m.

error on 6 (4 mins) - found what i thought was a termite mound on the way to 6, thought it was too good to be true and it was, ended up a few gullies N of control, realised when there was a distinct lack of rock

other errors that AP reports are probably due to drinking water .. (40 seconds on #7 since i double punched before and after the drink)

Matt caught me at #15-16, I tried to stay ahead of him, but he was a little too fast ..

very much enjoyed the map and course, including the almost 30min leg from one end of the map to the other.
