Orienteering 1:05:00 [2] *** 7.0 km (9:17 / km)

course setting and test running the stanford meet. I did most of the long mystery course and set some sprint controls.

Orienteering race 1:47:25 [4] *** 10.0 km (10:45 / km) +650m 8:06 / km

Golden Goat at Briones. I had a pretty good run. It was a physical course and I kept moving well to the end. I didn't make any real mistakes, just a couple of slightly inefficient routes. I kept seeing Russell although we only ran together for a couple controls. I tried to catch Tapio on the long sprint to the finish but could only just catch up to him before I died.

Running 53:55 [3] 5.3 mi (10:10 / mi) +290m 8:42 / mi

foothills alone. I felt tired and slow the whole way, although in actuality I started out rather fast and slowed down a lot near the end.

Orienteering race 1:33:21 [3] *** 7.8 km (11:58 / km) +400m 9:32 / km

Blue at Sunol. I had a decent race but generally couldn't run as fast as I should. I need to train more. I also made one largish ~4 min mistake and a couple smaller mistakes. I was also still hesitant on certain controls. I never knew exactly what I was doing and executed perfectly. I believe I chose the right routes on the long legs. My navigational problems were more small scale problems near the control. I had to slow down and could not read fine details on the map while running. This may be partly because I am not in shape.

Soccer 1:00:00 [2]

found a saturday game. just a few undergrads, not very serious but fun.

Orienteering 26:17 [2] ** 3.8 km (6:55 / km) +20m 6:44 / km

I test ran the short mystery course we are setting on stanford campus. I was tired from the soccer game so I didn't push too hard. I thought it was a fun course. A few minor things need to be fixed. Some of the controls were made surprisingly hard by the blanking out. I think on some of them we did a very good job forcing you to focus on navigation even though the campus is generally very easy. I even got a little confused once and I helped design the course!

Running 50:31 [4] 5.3 mi (9:32 / mi) +290m 8:09 / mi

foothills long loop with Russell. I beat my personal best for this loop by over a minute. And I'm not in great shape. It was definitely running the whole way with Russell that made me run much faster.

Orienteering race (Score-O) 2:27:00 [2] * 12.0 km (12:15 / km) +400m 10:30 / km
20c

Score-o at Huddart. This was not a real meet since we had to stay on trails and so I really have no idea how long my route was, 12 km is just a guess. I think I chose a decent route, including which two controls to skip (#10 and 13). I did waste several minutes in the middle of the course planning which I should have done on the run up there. I also didn't really push myself that hard.
Huddart was beautiful with many patches of snow on the ground. It was a little wet though.

Orienteering race 16:02 [3] *** 2.7 km (5:56 / km) +30m 5:38 / km

Prologue of the BAOC sprint championships at Point Pinole. I had a decent run and made no navigational errors but had trouble maintaining a decent pace. I am out of shape and need to train more.

Orienteering race 17:28 [4] *** 2.6 km (6:43 / km) +60m 6:01 / km

The Chase was a little more technical. It had also started to rain so it got rather cold. I was with the guy who started ahead of me and we both messed up #7 a little. Otherwise it was a clean race. I managed to pass the guy ahead of me on the butterfly loop near the end and held off the guy who started behind me with a hard sprint to the finish. I was a little tired from the prologue and generally need to get in better shape but all things considered it was a satisfying race.
